Senators officially say goodbye to Bobby Ryan

Bobby Ryan was officially sent packing Saturday.

The paperwork for the buyout of the final two years of the $14.5 million left on his contract was completed by the Ottawa Senators when he cleared waivers at noon.

Yes, the decision by general manager Pierre Dorion and the hockey staff to move on from the final two years of Ryan’s contract — which includes $4 million in signing bonus — came as a surprise, but this organization is doing a complete rebuild and he was the last remaining player from the roster that went to the 2017 Eastern final.

“This was a decision that required a lot of consideration,” said Dorion in a statement Saturday. “Bobby’s long been a deserving fan favourite in Ottawa. While we’re appreciative of his efforts on the ice, it’s outweighed by how proud we are of him for the courage that he has demonstrated off of it.

“As we continue to take strides in our rebuild, this decision was one that we felt was best for the organization. We wish he and his family the best as he moves forward.”

Senators won't re-sign Craig Anderson

The Ottawa Senators will not offer goaltender Craig Anderson a contract for 2020-21, general manager Pierre Dorion told reporters, including Postmedia's Bruce Garrioch, on Wednesday.

"He's the best goalie we've ever had," Dorion said. "It's time for us to take another direction and we thank him for everything he did."

The pending unrestricted free agent is the Senators' all-time leader in games played by a netminder. He's also tied with Robin Lehner atop the club's save percentage list with a .914 mark while having played 349 more contests with Ottawa than his fellow soon-to-be UFA.

Anderson, 39, spent nine-plus seasons of his 17 NHL campaigns with the Senators. Ottawa traded goaltender Brian Elliott to the Colorado Avalanche for him in 2011.

Senators sign Josh Brown to 2-year, $2.4M contract

The Ottawa Senators signed defenseman Josh Brown to a two-year contract that carries an average annual value of $1.2 million, the team announced Monday.

The Senators acquired Brown, who was a pending restricted free agent, from the Florida Panthers last week in exchange for a fourth-round pick.

The 26-year-old recorded three goals and five assists in 56 games with the Panthers last season while averaging 13:25 of ice time per contest.

Wow... Matt Murray? That's an interesting move by the Sens. Crazy how different this team could look come next season.

Ottawa Senators fail to qualify forward Anthony Duclair

The Ottawa Senators did not qualify the forward Anthony Duclair.Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said Wednesday that Duclair was acting as his own agent and that the team had offered him a “substantial raise,” but that Duclair would be heading for free agency.

Ottawa also did not issue qualifying offers to forward Jayce Hawryrluk and defenseman. Andreas Englund.

Duclair, 25, scored 40 points (23G, 17A) last season for the Senators, who failed to advance to the playoffs during the shortened COVID-19 campaign. He is on the verge of becoming a restricted free agent.

Jayce Hawryrluk and Andreas Englund also have RFA status.

Senators sign Dadonov to 3-year, $15M contract

The Ottawa Senators inked forward Evgenii Dadonov to a three-year deal worth $15 million, the team announced Thursday.

The deal pays Dadonov $3.5 million in 2020-21, $5 million in 2021-22, and $6.5 million in the final season and includes a 10-team modified no-trade clause, according to TSN's Pierre LeBrun.

Dadonov spent the previous three seasons with the Florida Panthers and recorded 25 goals and 47 points over 69 games in 2019-20.

The 5-foot-11 winger will help bolster Ottawa's offense, which ranked 25th last season. He's hit the 25-goal mark in three consecutive campaigns and notched a career-best 28 tallies and 70 points across 82 games in 2018-19.
