already mentioned this in the GDT for habs/sens. Per tsn.ca and rds.ca, Sens player Jaarko Ruutu has been suspended 2 games for his actions in yesterdays game.

Feel free to comment away.

GOOD!!!
I don't like the habs or sens and I don't like Lapierre that much either but I watched this game last night and thought right away that I hoped he got suspended for that hit. You could clearly see him come in and raise his elbow.
It is hits like that that need to be taken out of the game, not ones like the one on Brandon Sutter.
Ruutu is one of the idiots in the league who runs around like this and causes the clean hits that end in injury to be so heavily scrutinized.

I couldn't agree more. Ruutu is a total tool and I honestly wish he hadn't signed here...

Wow Frank, when I saw you had replied to my comment I thought for sure it would have been disagreeing with my statement. Glad to see we are on the same page!! haha
Maybe the Sens can ship Ruutu to the same place I would like the Leafs to ship Hollweg, although he played pretty hard last night.

Good. Ruutu's a chump and he's gotten away with that type of crap for far too long. He's in the same mold as an Avery or an Ott, running around playing dirty and then refusing to answer the bell when people have finally had enough. He's very lucky that Cube got to him before BGL.

Actually it was more like Ruutu got to Boullion before BGL got to him. Laraque headed his way, Ruutu saw him and changed direction so fast he left his newly soiled underwear behind.

Can't say this is a surprise, pretty blatant elbow.

Well if Lapierre hadn't had his head down...sorry that is your logic for when a Hab does something bad.

2 games is perfectly fair, I thought he should have been fined for some of his antics towards the crowd as well but the suspension is better than nothing.

Are you like 8 years old or something ? Real mature....

It's not like I go around saying the Habs are this godly team or anything. Obviously you have some hard feelings that carried over from when I spoke the truth.

Well your perception of the truth anyway, blaming the victim is certainly the best way to go.

That is the truth just as easily as me saying that if Lapierre had his head up he could have seen Ruutu comming and gotten out of the way. That's not my oppinion but it just shows that you believe whatever you say to be absolute fact.

But I digress, I wouldn't expect any less from someone like you and that's the last I will say.

Please jump off my sac, your hugging it too hard. I don't know you and I don't care who you are. I never once "blamed" the victim, I simply stated that had he not done what he did, the hit would have had a significantly different result, nothing more, nothing less. I was not happy about what TK did, but to say it was completely his fault is just stupid.

Anyways moving on, if you even have something remotely intelligent to say, send me a PM.....

The suspension was just about right for a headshot that was not vicious, but definitely intentional.

Actually, I disagree. Shouldn't INTENT be the main reason for a long suspension? There are often hits that result in injury where it's obvious no intent was there. But in a case like this one, it is clear as day that Ruutu is intending to hurt Lapierre with an illegal hit. I think garbage like this deserves a minimum 10 games. If you intend to injure someone, it shouldn't matter if you don't succeed. I'll bet he would have gotten 10-15 if Lapierre's jaw had been broken...

Intent to injure is different from the intent I was talking about. There was intent to hit him high, but that does not mean there was intent to injure. I think the punishment needs to fit the severity of the crime, and I don't think the goal was to put him out for 15 games. I think it was a dirty hit meant to knock him on his rear end.

Not that I advocate dirty shots to the head, but I think in general we are getting a bit soft when it comes to this game sometimes. The media is always up in arms about how they want certain hits out of the game, and I don't disagree completely...but I know fifteen years ago if Mark Messier makes that hit, there is probably not even a penalty. Instead, he would have been lauded for the physical element of his game. I'm not saying that is right either, but this is hockey, not basketball. I think the answer is somewhere in between.

Not too surprising - the suspension that is, and the culprit. Ruutu is a known cheap-shot artist, and probably should've gotten more games for that one. But I will also say, players have to take more responsibility for these things themselves as well. Having your head down is careless. This is the NHL, and if you're unaware of what's going on around you, even if for a second, you're going to get clocked. I like what Daryl Sutter had to say. He said in so many words, that when he played, players used to police themselves. That if something like this happened, that the players would let Ruutu have it for as long as it took, until he learned his lesson (whether for the rest of the night, or the next game, or whatever). I guess I just see some faults on both sides of the hit. Players should learn from these scenarios. And so should the league.
