Hello

I understand the smaller the print run lends to scarcity. But I am wondering if there is a standard value bump for card #1 of a print run or numbered matching the players jersey number ie card 068/100 being a Jagr card.

There is not "standard" bump for 1/xxx or jersey#/xxx. Some people value those more than others, and are willing to put premiums on such cards, others are not. It's all personal preference.

as a player collector depending on the card, i may sometimes pay an extra 2 or 3 for a jersey numbered card vs a misc numbered card.
I find it a bonus when it happens.

Hello

All of the player collectors, I find that Ovy collectors are crazy for cards that are numbered to 8.

As a Gaborik collector, I do not put a lot of value on a card #10/xxx just because it's his jersey number (although sellers try to gouge me for that fact). It's a little nice, but nothing I'd pay a premium for. Still a card #ed/xxx to me.

And having a card #001/100....who cares? It could be 023/100...056/100. Same number of cards in the print run.

All my opinion, of course.

Getting a player's jersey number is a nice bonus. I like it. I will pay a premium for it if it is a PC player, but will not go overboard. As Curt says, people have tried to gouge me in the past, and they have found it doesn't work.

Card 1 or 100? Who cares. the only time I could see that mattering, is if I could get ALL of the team set with the same serial number.

I'm a player collector.... and I will say that for me, the answer is 'yes'.

If there is a Ranford, limited to 100 copies, and I've got my choice between serial numbers 30 or 50.... I'll take the 30 every single time. Will usually pay a bit of a premium for it too. Certainly not double.... but if a $20 card costs me $23 to get what I feel is an upgrade, I'll do it.

When you're talking about GU stuff though, the patch quality is MUCH more important than the serial number. If 30/75 was a plain white swatch, and 35/75 was three colours.... gimme the three colours.

I too am a player collector and insert collector and I say YES as well to a premium.

I think a card that's first numbered or jersey number is pretty cool and I will pay alittle more.

Not really a standard per se but many player collectors will happily chip a few extra bucks to land jersey numbered cards of their favourite player. As noted previously, Ovechkin cards #'d 8/xx will always fetch extra. I've been known to go out of my way to grab a Gorges 26/xxx even if I already own a copy or two of a certain card. All comes down to personal tastes.

I will pay a little bit of a premium for Lander cards numbered 57/xxx or 51/xxx (his two NHL numbers), but nothing extreme. Like many of the other posters, I consider it a bonus.

When I collected Spezza, I only bought them if the seller didn't know what they had. I wasn't educating anyone nor was I paying someone a premium for it.

So does my Carey Price Future Watch Auto 1/999 have a premium over the others? I couldn't care less to be honest

I don't mind paying a little extra for jersey #'d cards. I could care less about the #1 cards...but I am a sucker for the very last card of a print run. When the last card matches the jersey #, I will gladly consider an overpay.

But to see cards like that Ice Monahan go for stupid $$$ just shows that some collectors really do place a much higher premium than most of us. I still couldn't believe how much Nuge's RC Cup jersey # went for upon release.

Wow, that Monahan went for some serious coin! Like most of the player collectors here it's a neat little novelty to get an interesting serial number - I'll take the nice serial number over a regular card if they're both available for the same price, but I won't typically shell out a premium unless I already have say the Daniel jersey number of a certain card and I can scoop up the matching Henrik.

I've managed to pick up quite a number of nice serial numbered cards - up to 113 'firsts', 90 'lasts', and 60 jersey numbers (not to mention 107 1/1's which I suppose could count as both firsts and lasts), though firsts and lasts are pretty easy to get with the vast number of x/10 or less cards these days. What I find cool is the much more common cards, I've got the Daniel 22/1105 and Henrik 33/1000 jersey cards from Titanium '03, the odds of putting a pair together like that are remote!
