Went to a couple of the local retail establishments that I thought might carry hockey cards (Target, Meijer) ...
Well, not much at Target, but Meijer had some of the "repackaged" 8-packs in a sealed plastic case, as well as some retail boxes of 04-05 Upper Deck ($20) and 05-06 UD Victory ($10). They also had something I'd never seen before - boxes of 150 "Hockey Trading Cards" that look sort of like fat cigarette boxes. They only had two at $6 each ... well I figured they'd be a bunch of older commons and such, but I figured I'd take a shot and see what I might find for that price.
The boxes were packed full of 95-96 Collector's Choice Platinum Player's Club inserts, 95-96 Upper Deck SE Inserts (w/ a handful of golds), and 95-96 Upper Deck Freeze Frame Inserts. Admittedly, not the best stuff in the world, but not bad for $6 each - heck, the Freeze Frame Gretzky books for $20. Anyway, this is where the "weirdness" comes in. The boxes contained 149 identical cards ... there was only 1 different card between the two boxes - one had a Players Club Larry Murphy while the other had a Platinum Players Club Ray Bourque. Besides those two, the collation was exactly the same - and we thought Upper Deck is bad now ... lol
Anyway, if anybody's looking for any of the inserts above lmk and I'll let you know if I've got doubles of any of them (actually I'll have doubles of all of them ... lol)
Anyone else ever see any of this stuff and what were your "pulls" like?
Thanks for the read ...
