As many of you have seen some of my PC items being moved in other collections as i am interested in other thing. I have the 2007-2008 the Cup limited Logo set. There are only 3 possible copies as the Guy Lafleur is /3. I have owned these since that year only adding a Al Macinnis from a member on here. The Thorton and Perry were not made.

Should i sell as a set or break it up. I have posted a picture of it that ran in Hobby Insider magazine.

MOds if this post violates any rules delete it. Sorry.

would like to post a poll but have no idea how. ah figured it out now. thanks for you opinions.

I'll be honest, if you're thinking of selling it I would definitely, without a doubt, break it up into individual cards.

Unless it is a complete base set, I have never, for the life of me, understood people trying to sell sets in their entirety of this magnitude and cost? There are but a small handful people in this hobby who could even fathom spending that kind of money in one fell swoop.

Also, you are severely diminishing the marketability of this set by limiting your potentials buyers to the aforementioned few. If you break it up, you will be able to have all the player/team collectors come in and compete for obtaining what they want and need.

I would imagine selling it as singles with a set like this you might even do what rarely is seen these days and recoup your initial investment or even MAKE a profit.

That's just my 2 cents.

Good luck and sweet Kopitar, one of the best I have seen besides the copy we secured for my oldest son.

This.

You should also make them all available at the same time (ie one single 7 or 10 day time period) so that buyers might try to put together partial sets (or even buy all of them) and thus raise the selling prices. I've seen the most success with this type of set break.

It would also be a nightmare to mail such a high value set (customs, insurance, etc).

Here is my take on collecting a set. I would always ask myself, what would I do with it once it is done? Does it go into a box or binder never to be seen by anyone besides myself? I came to realise that the entire enjoyment of set collecting for me is the collecting part. Once I would have the whole thing there would be nothing left to do with it. If I were to finish a set, I would get the cards I really really like (favorite players, local or personal story related, funny pictures, errors, whatever) and get it graded or display it in some way. Then send the rest on their merry way so that others can enjoy them too.

I know other people like to keep the sets they have and that's fine. It all comes down to what you really want out of the collecting experience.

I voted for the "break it up" option. Only because if you were to sell it, I doubt anyone would want the whole thing in one shot, especially at the price it would be at. Consider that maybe the most interested buyers would also be people trying to do the set, but then say "well I have this one and that one already." You could try offering it as the whole thing at first just to see if you get any takers, but breaking it up will probably get it to move faster even if it is more work. Breaking it up would be better for people who only collect certain teams or players, or for people doing the set that already have some or a bunch.

I didn't pick the "keep it" option because that one is up to you.

Thanks for all the advice. I have decided to break it up and it will be on the bay later today for one week. I have consigned it so i cant sell any privately.

i do agree that it was putting together the set that was fun but idont know what to do with it now.

for you warsawknuckles.

Personally myself I would try and shop it as a set first for what I was looking for. As was mentioned above there are a select few who have the pockets to buy something like this however if they want it they are more than willing to put out the dollars to get it. I would list for 25% more than I was hoping to get and accept offers. While breaking it up does have it's advantages as mentioned you do run into a situation after all the most desirable cards are moved where you are stuck with the less sought after cards. While you may profit off of the bigger names chances are you will more than likely lose on the lesser names and thus end up with less than you may get selling it as a whole. You can always break it up if it doesn't sell as a whole but bundling a less than full set once the big guns are gone is a lot harder.
