Set building coming back?

Is it me, or set building is coming back in this hobby?

I look at the trading sections, and I see more and more people doing the regular base set of higher-end products like SPGU, International Ice, ...

We also see people doing large jersey sets like regular SPGU, Rookie Threads, ...

In the past, people were typically doing SPed RC sets.

What are your thoughts about this?

People are trying their best, I don't think set collecting ever went away completely it just got increasingly more difficult. As soon as UD realizes base cards shouldn't be redemptions it will become even more popular. It's great seeing the set collecting going on, it keeps the fun of the hunt around.

What I'd like to see is a little bit of value in the base cards people crack tons of product and the base is worth nothing. Maybe the could make the sets bigger say 200 base cards instead of 100 in the mid end prducts SPA, SPX

I agree with that.Set building is what I consider my most enjoyable part of this hobby.But once the set is done and the chase is over than I get rid of the set.It is a bit upsetting to know that a set is jam packed with redemptions

I love set building and it is one of the major reason I came back to the hobby. When I was younger I always dreamed of finishing sets. It was a great day for me when I finished the 84-85 OPC set and I haven't forgotten that feeling.

I think 2000-01 to 2003-04 saw more interest by the collector to go after the auto RC patches (mainly SPA) but that same attention hasn't been seen since the lock-out -- even with all the Sidiots from last year.

I've always been a set collector and it seems to be the most natural instinct of Hobbyists. Why else would the companies number their cards?

I don't do anything BUT set collect... I'm just a nutbar and decided that a master set might be a good idea... WTF was I THINKING??????????????????

OPC sets... I grew up building them and I absolutely love doing those still, finishing off my old ones... don't think I'd do anything else but set collect... it's ingrained in me.
