There's basically nobody (Matt Grice aside) that I feel sorry for in MMA right now more than Shane Del Rosario. The guy goes undefeated to open his career and is projected to be a huge force in the Heavyweight Division. His career gets sidetracked after he was hit by a drunk driver. In fact, I think it had been said at one point that his injuries were career ending (and then scaled back to career threatening) - He's able to recuperate and make it to the UFC after Strikeforce went under, but he's seriously seriously just a shell of what he was capable of before.

He's gone 0-2 in the UFC - Has not fought this year due to injuries. He JUST had to withdraw from his fight in December with a rib injury, and how he has a severe cardiac arrest.

...and he JUST turned 30.

So rough.

Unfortunately, things aren't looking good. Evidently, his brain won't respond to treatment, and his family has already opted not to put him on a machine if it comes down to it. Many places are reporting he's passed away, though it's not official yet. Apparently his organ function and kidneys responded, but after they cooled his body temperature to see if his brain would respond, it has not.

I also feel sorry for his roommate and best friend Ian McCall at this point. Ian's had such a fragile go of his own life these last few years that I just can't imagine what's going through his own head right now.

A not good update here:

His family will apparently make a decision tomorrow on what to do.

And as for Ian McCall his whole life has been one of tumult. He was the person that discovered Justin Levens and his wife's bodies after that murder/suicide.
