Is it possible to somehow email the redemption code to a buyer and still somehow have paypal protection? I'm in the US and shipping to canada. Any auction over $75 I split the registered shipping but seems he just wants the code. Do I have a way to still keep protection if I email it to him?

Thanks guys and gals.

I think this comes down to trust of the buyer. It isn't uncommon to just email the code, but you won't have paypal protection, since you can't verify delivery of the item. If the redemption went for over $75, I wouldn't send by email unless the buyer was solid gold, and even then, I've been hearing of more shenanigans from high feedback buyers/sellers than seems normal. As a buyer, I'd rather just get the code by email. As a seller, I'd have a tough time with that.

I personally prefer to have the redemption sent to me via email or PM on eBay - saves both time and a couple extra bucks for all parties involved. If you send it over eBay it does give you something more credible to refer to in the event of a dispute.

I've been offering to receive the card but also send the code over email first. See if they will do that. Protects you and they get the redeemed card faster.

I would never ship a high end redemption without protection. Send him the actual card. It's a four day wait, which will be shorter than the actual wait time on the authentic card.

do both and an extra step.

1. send him the code to ensure he gets it.
2. scan the code and save it just in case.
3. send the card to him, registered and tracked to protect your butt.

this should take any "not getting it" or "lost in the mail" or "never sent it" problems out of the way.

Thats perfect. Does anyone know if paypal considers "registered" shipping in the USPS enough?

I think sending the code over email is safest

Therefore you know what the code is, if he claims it doesn't work or files a claim against you then you should follow up with Upperdeck since you have the code and could check against who redeemed the card.

BINGO! I have shipped numerous codes via email (cards in excess of $300 bucks) and never had a problem once. As was said - if buyer says he didn't receive it you have the email and UD will be helpful in this situation.

I've sent the code a bunch of times with no issue...someone else said it, it comes down to the trustworthiness of the buyer. Either way, you're taking a chance.

But what if the buyer is dishonest and gives the code to a friend to redeem the card...then claims he never used the code and is out the card? So then you're trying to track down the person who did redeem the card?? It all boils down to how trustworthy the buyer is...since dishonest and imaginative people can often find ways to get around measures meant to protect you.

Carried to its extreme, perhaps you should never sell a redemption card...but redeem it yourself and then sell the actual card with all the proper tracking in order to satisfy ebay/paypal...(sigh)...hopefully it won't come to that.
