Back around the time I joined the forum, I was then living with my father and he had moved out and given me the house. I had only enough time to really expand my vision for the house to one room by then. That room was the one I had covered with a total wall collage, if anyone remembers me working on that. That was also the year my basement flooded, so my overall progress was soon halted. The only thing that became of that room was it turned into card storage. To this day, that room is still referred to as "The Card Room."
In less than a year, his living situation wasn't working out for him and he wanted to move again. I had one room available that I hadn't gotten to, so he moved into there. The card room's walls were all torn down and repainted as the house was put on the market. It didn't sell. Then effort was done to fix things up, replacing all the windows, make a front porch, other related stuff. While I had been visiting the forum regularly, I stopped posting about what new stuff I got and looking to buy or trade.
The truth is, my collection was in flux for that time. I kept trying new ways to do things, along with my best friend. At the time the house was for sale, I moved all my cards to his house. I had some fun going after certain things like plates, show stamped cards and collecting some minor league teams... the great chase to get 500 Sean Burke cards, etc. I then decided I was going to collect the Maple Leafs when it pretty much hit. I don't want to collect all these teams and players I don't really care about (talking to you Frantisek Kaberle) so I decided to do a reset, but wasn't quite sure what to do yet.
Well a few months ago my father found his calling and moved out once again, and I have the house to myself once again. The "Card Room" had since been partially converted into a Transformers display area, so the plan for that was already in motion. I wasted little time in setting up a new card room and address all the problems I had experienced in the past (aka no more sitting on the floor sorting cards). No real cards to show off here, yet there are cards in these pictures.
First I bought a wire shelf to put binders on. One of my new directions is to collect baseball sets. I had the same problem with baseball as with hockey. I kept going after projects that required too many things to remember. I always liked sets that have multi-tiered parallels in the base set. I already have been going after 2007 Bowmand and Bowman Chrome since those were released. I have a favorite team that I like to follow and watch, but I don't need to collect just their cards.
It looks a little ghetto at the moment. All my binders have collages on them too as you can see on some of those. I taped cardboard to the sides of the rack in order to let me put binders on there without falling out of the sides. I plan on doing collages on those cardboard sides, at least the outside. I also did buy the mat that you put on the wire mesh, but found out that I probably won't use it. I had also recently got a cat, and he doesn't like walking on the shelves. So no mats and the cat stays off!
Here is a table I have just to sort cards on. I may end up putting a table cloth on it. You can see the piles for baseball sets I've yet to put into books. The other things I am going after are hockey autographs and I also want to get a Sabres card for each player they've had if possible. The 3-row box has my traders in it.
So my main hockey focus will go back to what works. WHA/NHL Winnipeg Jets, Phoenix and Arizona Coyotes. I want to eventually put up the scans for those but I have a lot of work to do before then. Which is going through all these boxes!
One of the other things I collect is video games. About a year ago I wanted to see how many hockey games I could find. After I was setting up this new card room, I wanted to use the existing shelves for something (you can see them at the top of the previous picture) so I put my hockey games on them. (The puck next to Atari Ice Hockey is autographed by Taylor Pyatt)
So that's it for now! Someday I will post scans of my Jets/Coyotes collection.
