Showcase Not a Guaranteed Patch Per Box?

It's a much lower price point than previous years so I actually prefer this. The ARPs didn't sell that well anyway so I think it has much better value now
 
On a well known site...$71.95 for a 16/17 box...$69.95 for 15/16 box with a shot at McDavid. UD is playing us all for fools. I was excited to open this product before I learned this. Now I'll let the others open and pick up the singles I want for pennies on the dollar.

Obviously the pricing on last year's product is a fire sale. On release day, that product was $100+ per box
 
The Auto/Patch is now a parallel to the True RC now too. The configuration is different, but I think it works. I think UD's best products are those with 15-20 packs and a hit in every one with the $60-90 price point.
 
I bought two cases of Showcase in each of the last two years because I really liked the rookie auto patches. So I think it stinks that UD removed for the most part the RPA's

I might try a box but not much more than that. I agree, UD knows that collectors will buy whatever they put out because we have no choice if you want licensed cards.

I think people are forgetting that upper deck lowered the price by only 20%, but removed 60-75% of the hits.

A box in previous years had NOT ONLY a guaranteed auto Patch rookie, but also 2-3 more mem or auto hits per box, many of which were often a SECOND auto rookie patch, or a low numbered patch hit of some kind.

This years iteration comes with only ONE guaranteed hit per box, and other than the ARP's, NO MEM in the entire product.

As far as the numbered hits, THEY COST UPPER DECK NO MORE TO MAKE THAN A STANDARD INSERT. Numbering is a very cheap process compared to Jersey or auto hits.

So, you save $20 per box, Upper deck saves 50% of their costs, WHO IS THE ONLY WINNER HERE?
 
Not sure I'd really miss hitting a common ARP that doesn't even fetch $5 anyway. The lower price per box seems like a win to box cracker.

It comes with about 18 hits in the box. Autos and jerseys aren't the only 'hits'.

This is one of the few remaining sets that really offers insert set collecting. I think the lower box price only helps that part of the hobby.

seems like a win, but in reality is a major loss. Also, a lot of the patches from showcase were always really nice. Many were sold more than $5 last year. The whole common $5 arp is a myth. And yes this is just a taste of what's to come. Another reason why I've cut back my hobby spending significantly.
 
Most of the auto/patches DID sell for $5 or less so I'm more than happy with the $30 savings per box. I'm one of the people who believe that autos and jerseys aren't needed to drive a product. Most of those "hits" end up in dollar bins. It was a horrible value break. It's much better now

UD can't win. They're always told their products are too expensive. They make them more affordable and get crapped on anyway.

Funny that such a big deal is being made out of Showcase of all products. I can't wait for SP Authentic to hit for the real complaining to begin.
 
i really liked Showcase up until last years re-configuration.i didn't mind spending $90-$100 on a box that had 3 auto/memorabilia per box and a few numbered inserts/parallels.this year they have made the auto/patch cards tougher pulls and lower numbered therefore more valuable on the secondary market then prior years.however,the non-numbering of red glow,EX and other inserts killed thoughts of breaking it for me.had they serial numbered ALL the inserts i wouldn't have a problem spending $70 a box.as is i'd consider $55 a box...maybe.

I think that was the disappointing part for me. I think the look of the RPAs this year is excellent. But they are an insert, so they don't quite hold the same appeal for me. As well, making the Matthews a SSP really stinks.
 
Showcase is all about the shiny inserts and parallels for me. The secondary market value isn't that strong for this release, but the PMGs and Flair Blues are as nice a card as UD produces. Reminds me of some of the 90s stuff.
