Silver ink autos

I've seen this a couple of times in The Cup set, where a numbered auto will, for the most part, be signed in blue ink. But there are some subsets where I've seen both blue ink, and then usually the last couple of cards will be signed in silver ink. Case in point I received a replacement card from UD, 2011-12 The Cup Scripted Sticks Carey Price 33/35. No scan at this point and time, but does something like this affect rarity, or is it done just the auto will be more prominent on the stick?

It's probable that the companies send the players different coloured markers with instructions like that. If they are signing a black item, use the silver, and not black, or blue, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll do that. A lot of the players that do a lot of signings would know to use different colours under certain circumstances, and others don't care, and do whatever they want. All the more reason to have them sign in front of a company rep like in the old days.

depending on the background color or swatch (if it's an auto'd patch or jersey) they'll use a silver pen so that the autograph is visible.
