Well, it has happened........again!

For the second time in 2 or 3 months my PC crashed!

I am computer-savvy enough to reload all the drivers and such but figure f*ck it, what waste my time again? (I spent 3 hours re-loading the system last time)

The system is almost 5 years old, time for a new toy (good excuse for another Christmas prsent, LOL).;)

So here is my 2 questions to you all:

What type of computer do you have and do you like it? If you do NOT like it what would you rather have? Or any suggestions on what is out there that you do like?

I have a Dell Dimension and was looking at going to a nice Dell XPS system.

I also may get a new scanner. I currently have a Epson Perfection 3490.

Should I stick with that scanner or get a a new one?

How is this all hobby-related? Because my bloody mail calls on hold since I am working off my lapper again, LOL. I do have some new stuff uploaded to photobucket so I should be able to do a few more posts but that gosh darn pile is mounting again!:o

Comments and feedback are appreciated VERY much.:)

I just upgraded to a nice 286 with 1MB RAM and a 3.5" floppy drive. :D

Dell Dimension DM051
Pentium D 2.80ghz

160GB Hard Drive (just enough for the stuff Mike e-mails to me)
DVD-ROM
DVD-RW (to backup the stuff that Mike e-mails to me)

Printer: HP Photosmart 7550

Scanner: Cannon LiDE 80

Sorry to hear Barrie!!!

I have a houseful of teens/mother-in-law/and of course me and along with that goes 'puters. I have upgraded 3 of them this year - and to tell the truth - you can do it so cheap right now - it is ridiculous.

Just watch the Best Buy and Circuit City (hate them - but price match) ads right now - they are almost giving them away - as packages . I just got the teens an EMachines AMD 64 with 3200(2.6Ghz)/512MB Memory & 160 Gig HD & DVD RW and a 15" LCD Monitor for around $299 (after rebates). Then the add-ons:
Upgrade to 17" LCD Monitor $50
Add in another 512MB Memory (Price Match) $29
Most expensive purchase was a gaming video card
RadeonX700Pro 256MB (PCI Express) - $179 (after rebates)

Total was under $600 - and the system flies.
No need for the Video acrd unless you have a gamer in the house.
No need for bigger hard drive - as I just swapped the old one into the new machine as a 2nd storage drive. Or if you have prying eyes - you can pass/protect the 2nd drive rather than partioning your primary drive.

I have a Dell Dimension 4100. I've had it for about 6 years, been upgrading it pretty much ever since. It's only crashed on me I think once, early this year. But with the help of my cousin the computer guru, we got it fixed in a few hours. I didn't lose anything thankfully. But other than that, the problems have been fairly minimal on it.

If you want a new computer, I'm a bit tempted to suggest a Mac. You get pretty much all of the same things as you do with a PC, but more and cooler stuff, too. But, since I'm obsessed with Dell, I'd suggest them. My dad just got a new one just before summer for his work and as far as I know they haven't had any troubles. Probably cuz I set it up for them and troubleshot it for them :D

Guys, thanks for all the comments.

Jay, Sounds like you have some unreal storage capacity on that mutha!

Bruce, I appreciate the insight and I think I shall use your suggestions on the old one and keep it after all. Then once it is up and running use it upstairs and I'll put the new one in the office in the basement.

Trevor, you're more a techie than I so you could make a Commodore 64 work great!;)

Jimmy, thanks for the kind offer my friend, you're the man!:)

Rob/CJ, you guys and your **** Apples!:p

Cory, I shall give you more to poke fun at shortly!;)

Shawn, where in God's name did you come from? GREAT TO SEE YA!:D

But no, porn tis not the problem. I look at that at work with the boys on my shift, LOL.;) I think it's all the images crashing the home PC!
