Have not been around for a few years… just wondering if this is still the best place to find some cards?
Used to love the site…. Vegaspuck, Quincy, Langway05, Gomaz, Barracuda used to always receive a response… now to be honest it seems rather slower? Is it just the Stanley Cup being played…slow season? Or have things changed?

I know things change… just curious

Im not saying its not the best, but it may not be the most efficient. You can find almost anything you need on facebook, and be talking one on one with the seller in seconds in most cases.

Darren

Go to see you dropping in.

There is a show today in Edmonton listed in the H.I. calendar.

Happy collecting.

Things have definitely slowed down around here since Facebook, Twitter and Instagram all took hold of the hobby. But good to see you pop back in!

Buying, selling and trading in Facebook or instagram are just so much easier than what it is on here. I hate to say it because I’ve been on here for years and love HI.

With social media sites it is much easier to message people because they get a notification on their phones and it’s much easier to send pics back and forth.

There are scammers on there and you need to be careful though. Many will say that their is more scamming being done now than their was when HI and SCF were the place to buy, sell and trade. Keep in mind that sports cards are more popular now and there is a lot more money in it. Just be careful who you deal with and ask for vouches.

Traffic was huge after Crosby, slowed a bit, spiked with McDavid, and is about 1/12 of what it was at it’s peak.

A lot of people have moved on. A few deaths of some active members, a few kicked for shady dealings, some have disappeared or have reduced activity. Many have slowed their collections, started families, or whatever, changing their priorities.

The ones that share have dropped to a few a day, maybe. Crosby days used to have nearly a page of new. Part of the issue is the money…more expensive these days. Some of it is what you share…how do you share? Do you show everything good and bad, just good, or don’t have time to share? (Or just not motivated to do the work behind sharing…I may fall under that category. I have shared probably 3-5% of everything that I have picked up in the last 10 years. I have a very good collection, but not super organized, but getting better…I have over 1000 cards /100 or less in a spreadsheet, of which I only have photos of maybe 30. There is surprisingly a lot of work to posting photos.)

Traffic isn’t what it used to be on message boards. Still my favorite places to talk and trade. I started trading a bit on Facebook, I made some decent deals over there, but it have been quiet lately. I started selling on COMC, I learned the game a bit with my first lot, I will send more later, with a better knowledge of what sells well or not there.

IN terms of photosharing, for anyone reading this that wants to post photos here. I use https://postimages.org/. It's really easy actually and free.

I took your advise and yes it is very easy to use. But I find that when it gets to a certain amount of pictures they disappear.
Do I need to sign up and pay for their service.Just wondering if that is the reason. I have sent them a question but no reply.
Just wondering if you you may know the reason. Thanks, Winston.

I still lurk alot here .....I dont post nearly as much for 2 reasons ...1 is that I no longer have an LCS so I dont break much anymore ...and 2 Posts get views but hardly anyone comments so it just seemed like a waste of time .......

I look here every day hoping to see more post about what is happening in the hobby and always like to see who pulled what. With the Bedard effect on prices, let's face it, now one box cost what you could get two or three boxes of the same product in the past so for me understandable that you don't see as many breaks.

This remains my hobby home, but it reminds me of nothing so much as video arcades in the 90s: the decline is all too evident, and it's clear that things are moving on.

Lots on FB and insta. Dan Vincent is like the Emperor of Twitter.

but for a time, there was nothing cooler :) cool comparison, for a time in my small town there were at least 6 different arcades......a couple years later there were at least 8 hobby shops....the good OLD days

I fully intend to turn the lights off and close the door of HI behind me. I can still get deals done and help people here, and I enjoy the informative posts. It is a part of my daily routine, even if it is only for a few minutes.

Good to see you D. Glad to see you still kicking around.

Many people like myself still lurk, and there are several commendable die-hards, but the site is nowhere near it's former glory for multiple reasons, most of which have already been discussed.

Hey Winston,

I use the free service and haven't had any pictures disappear. Perhaps its a matter of the folders you create. I have a few folders but unless you are using it as your main image storage platform, perhaps you only need one for sharing images on HI.

Good to see you Darren!

Yeah things have changed, its feels more like the typical evolution of things. I agree with how Steve describes it, for me its more like the TV show "Cheers!", actually there's an abundance of parallels, including characters LMAO!

I still like to come back here as a grounding spot. Stick around mate!

Glenn

This place is ridiculously slow and clearly lost the battle to things like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram BUT the real value is the archive of info available if you search. There is a 20 year history of the hobby sitting on this website.

Will younger collectors want any of that info? Who knows? Beckett Magazine used to be the gold standard and now its more of a novelty than anything but looking at the old ones is pretty cool.
