Upstanding Member,
So sketches have really become my favorite part of non-sports card collecting, of course the big challenge with that is you really can't be a completionist, some people try for one by each artist, some one of each character, but even at that it can be a challenge.
Personally I always break product that contains sketches as I just love pulling them, and I then keep what I get as I can't let any of them go. With respect to buying on the secondary market I tend to pick specific characters and will only buy their cards unless a deal can be had. Of course since the collection is a little different, sketches are one area where I will trade from my PC, that is I'll trade sketches that aren't on my "special character" list for ones that are - but that would be the only way I'll let a sketch go (some examples of that later in this post).
So first some that meet the criteria of potentially available, from Star Trek Voyager (box pulled years ago):
And an E-Bay purchase at a great price a month or two ago - Complete Avengers Beast Sketch:
The rest are all absolutely keepers.
Star Wars 30th (my keeper sketches in SW are Fett cards and Storm Trooper cards):
I've seen a couple of color ones but one went over $200 and the Kayanan broke $1000 so I may be restricted to just this B&W one.
Complete Avengers (all from E-Bay) - keepers are low end characters to keep cost down - Black Knight, Black Panther, Hawkeye and Moon Knight
Moon Knight wasn't in my original list, but I found this while searching for Black Knight, and loved it, plus remembered enjoying the character so I added him to my list.
Next up the results of my first two non-sports trades, for this first one I was contacted out of the blue by someone who found my site, and was curious if I had any sketches (as I had a lot of singles from the products that had the first ever sketches), a few e-mails later and I agreed to part with a couple of mine that he needed, for the one other Marvel character I'll collect - Wolverine, these are both from Marvel Creator's Collection
Now of course after that contact, I had to do some research on value before agreeing to a trade, and since the older one rarely show on the Bay, I did some Google searches, found another sketch collector (has an insane amount of the Marvel Silver age sketches), and managed a trade for these 3 Hawkeye's - color one from Complete Avengers, other 2 from MCC
