So I've starting hitting the non-sport area pretty hard lately, taking a mini-break from hockey. I've been mainly finishing off some Lost sets. I realized when looking at some of the Heroes and Marvel Masterpieces stuff that I have no idea what sort of sets are coming out these days.

I go to the Non-Sport Update site and order a subscription. Not really for the pricing, but for the articles and ads.

Four days later I get my first issue, so no 6- to 8-weeks for the first issue. And I don't even care that it's the one currently in stores, since no stores around me carry it. Also included were some promos (probably their promos they give out) and a pretty long hand-written note from someone there thanking me, and so on.

See, it's just the little things. Maybe I should have never left the non-sport universe in the first place!

Joe, good to hear this and I'll go a little rant of my own right now.:p

I have been a non-sport guy on and off for about 4 years now.

I mainly do the celebrity fans type cards but also am starting to dabble in TV show cards from Inkworks and such.

I really find it, along with hockey, the two most enjoyable aspects in my collecting habits.

I have grown weary of the baseball, basketball and football stuff which is why I stopped all those PC's last year (well, I still sneak in some Mets cards here and there  ).

I think I am gonna see how things go, but after this hockey card year, I am going to make some MAJOR changes for myself and my collecting goals and I believe non-sports are going to become a staple in my hobby diet.

Knowing what you buy and seeing you and your son with the players, I'll believe it when I see it! :)

My mini-break may turn into something more permanent as well. I don't really buy hockey boxes much anymore, which means I'm not building sets either.

On the Jagr front, I'm a pretty discriminate collector in that I collect more or less autos and nicer patch cards these days. Being able to limit myself as opposed to chasing after every single card has ironically kept things refreshing since (aside from the autos) I don't have an actual "need" list. If I see a patch I like, I go for it.

At this point if I knew I could sell all my Jagr stuff for a respectable percentage of what I put into it, I'd do it in a heartbeat. And knowing what that would take I'd even hand-deliver it!

Non-sport stuff is different. I watch Lost, I watch Jericho, I see the X-Men movies. It's an easy 30-minute/hour/2-hour thing, and if you like you can watch it again. There are no trades, no threat of a player getting injured, anything like that.

I'd love to see more things going on in this part of HI, so c'mon folks, viva la non-sports!

Non-sports will ALWAYS be my first love... Star Wars was my first movie, and I started collecting star wars cards before hockey cards... I still remember buying packs upon packs of Empire cards trying to get that damned "Prize of Boba Fett"... frig, I still remember the name of that stupid card! LOL

I love the autos and the limited amounts of those cards... and the sketches are AWESOME, providing decent value for your breaks. You don't need to find the Crosby RC to get your $$ back... and the designs are sweet. I don't think I've seen a nicer auto set than the Bond autos I'm collecting - crisp, clean and just awesome.
