Has the price of boxes really went up much? what is a good price? Why has it went up? The rookie class is not wow, are there more hits than usual?

Cardboard Cartel (distributors) playing pricing games again maybe? But like you say the rookie class isn't exactly 2015-2017 material.

My LCS isnt getting in anymore as its just not feasible for him. His cost would be what they were selling for Retail on release if he were to re order. I agree that the rookie crop isnt earth shattering this year as its pretty much lead by 2 D-Men and we all know how great D-Men sell for. But SPA is one of the most sought after releases each year so people will buy it even after the reordered price. Heck, I probably would by another box at a marked up cost. I was paying $179 a box here in Halifax and thats with my shop owner giving me a loyalty discount. $200 would be my cut off personally for a box.

$160 all in here in the valley, would be $50.00 more on reorder. My LCS said his distributors were being offered over asking price prior to release by stores trying to get more then their allotment. Playing right into the distributors hands if that is true, or could just be a ploy by them to justify the price hike.

It's been discussed in other threads but the prices of boxes the past couple months has been unreal. Panini's Premier League Prizm was $120 when the pandemic started. It's 300 now. It's a combo of pent up demand from bored people and distributors holding cases ransom

See, I get why they do it ($$$), but it's a shame we can't see prices stay still once the product drops on release day.

Demand outstrips supply. And remember, for every SPA there are three Contours or Allure gathering dust.

They're a business. They've gotta sell what sells. I'm not saying I like it, but I understand the motivations behind it.

I have often thought before to just buy a case at preorder and sit on it for two months. Guaranteed that you would make some money.

Something along the same line of thinking. If we as collectors know that every year the second wave is so much higher. Why not just buy what you want at the preorder price. Then you avoid all this higher pricing. And if you have the funds to buy more than you really need.Buy extra and sell the excess in a few months and get what you opened yourself at a much lower cost.Maybe even for nothing.I have a good friend that bought is SP authentic for $135.00 a box all taxes in.And I have not bought boxes for many years. But that price seemed so cheap to me that I did inquire. And with the dealer I ask his cost was higher than that.So how was $135.00 a box even possible. But I am glad I do no longer buy wax.

Its greed, unfortunately. Distributors and stores want to make more money per box so they both increase prices. Its horrible for buyers. Price per box goes up, yet prices and values (using recently sold prices) of cards drop significantly in the weeks after release.

How much are stores making though? From what I've heard, they don't make that much money off boxes. Distributors are the ones raking in the cash.

my lcs went up 5 bucks on restock so close to 185. it costs the same shipped since my lcs provides free shipping on orders over 150. if anyone wants the link just lmk!
