SPA Future Watch vs Ultimate AU RC

Ultimate is one of the worst values in the hobby, both in pack and single. SPA FW all the way.

How is it the worst value in singles? The Ultimate rookie auto is 10 times as scarce in the case of /99s and in most cases not even 2x the price. If you get down to the /299 RCs you can in get them for the same price.

You just answered your own question.

The Ultimate RC's are 3-10x more scarce than FW RC's, come from a product that is 10x more expensive on a per pack basis, yet the singles only sell for slightly more than the FW RC's. If that is not the definition of poor value, I don't know what is.

I actually call that good value lol. You get a lower PR card for a much better price, relative to PR's.

I always like the looks of the Ultimate RC's much more than the SPA's. Don't get me wrong though, I also really like SPA every year but if it were me I'd collect the Ultimates based on eye appeal and the lower PR and the better value. However, being aware of the greater market, and from a resell perspective, I'd maybe lean towards the SPA's. But again, from the collect what you like angle, I'd collect Ultimates.

You're using output vs. scarcity to define "value"....value strictly from a buyers perspective. Your analogy is kind of like a person who goes out and buys a fully loaded Kia for the same price as a base model Honda. I view Ultimate as buying a fully loaded Honda, and receiving a base model Kia....LOL

What does pack price have to do with anything? We are talking about singles.

My definition of value is quality vs. price. To me, the difference in quality of ultimate collection outweighs the difference in price. Stricly referring to singles. I will not argue that Ultimate Collection boxes are a ripoff.

I hear what you are saying in terms of honda/kia but that is only due to the set collectors of SPA. By the way, there is no analogy in my post ;). My post is based purely on the secondary singles market and my taste of eye appeal. And where I see value compared to how the greater market is actually performing at this time. Basically, I would have Ultimate RC's as a "hot stock tip" due its its lower prices relative to its intrinsic value, which is based purely on the relative print runs.

When you can get a Tavares Ultimate /99 for perhaps only a little more money than his SPA /999, you are getting better value. Not sure how you turned that into cars lol!

Both cards have the exact same attributes: numbered and RC, hard signed auto, part of a base set. Only difference is the print run.

To to use your analogy, I am saying that instead of buying a stock model Ferrari for $250,000 you can buy a limited edition Ferrari with only say 20 units made for say $1,000,000. That's a 4x multiple. Whereas based on similar print run in cards you are getting the limited card for say a 1.2X multiple with a much lower production number, relatively speaking.

Even easier to understand would be a poker pot odds analogy. If you are getting 10 to 1 odds (print runs) to call when your odds of hitting are six to one (price), you should call (buy). Because you are getting good "value". If a card is selling lower than its scarcity vs. value ratio when compared to the other cards' same ratio, it can be said that you are getting better value.
