Just thought of this, instead of having the autos be stickered, why not have the play pictures be stickered? With every star being at the all star game, UD could just make template cards with the grid lines printed out, have whatever stars who agree sign them, then place their pictures on later as a sticker. This way you can have hard signed octo autographs.

I see the production margin of error with this being much larger than creating the cards in advance and sheeting the stickers over top, instead of vice versa. Machines would somehow have to apply these stickers with greater precision as opposed to people who can put the stickers on cards by hand.

Not to mention, you'd need a sticker that covered the whole card, otherwise, it honestly would look extremely tacky and unprofessional, and I don't know how feasible (or financially viable) it would be to do them one by one by hand.

UD has already put a spin on sticker autos by literally spinning them around and putting them upside down. also, would you want to see an upside down player photo? :p

I still say get rid of sticker auto's regardless. If the athlete can't sign then don't include them in the product. Have them sign extras so they have some available incase the athlete damages some or if some gets damaged during production.

But octo auto's have a low print run, I'm sure you could do this by hand for low costs. Like people have said before, signatures have been placed backwards, it's alot hard to place a player backwards but I'm sure if this was done UD could manage it too.

The template of the card can be premade stating OCTO auto or something from the All Star players or something like that, and the certifacte of authenticity is a separate card anyway so it won't look much worse than right now.

I like that this is an original thought, and I think it's an idea worth trying on a limited basis; something like the all star game festivities would be a good example.

That being said, I have to agree with the sentiment that the number of errors on auto cards would likely be huge, as UD would likely have difficulty coming up with an efficient, and cost effective methodology to pull it off.

Real world solutions don't always work when it comes to cards. And that's on both sides of the fence for both manufacturers and/or collectors

Chad, where on earth did you find that truly bizarre description?

My gf stumbled across it yesterday while she was browsing online and happened to stop on a page that made light of knockoffs. Sunbuck coffee and Cnovesre shoes, along with KLC (Glasses and bolo tie wearing Chicken instead of the Colonel) and the popular cyborg "Robert Cop" were amongst some of the other hilarious knockoffs on the page.

Am I the only one who doesn't mind sticker autos in general?

I do prefer Hard Signed autos, especially for athletes that take definite advantage of the space and whose autos suffer from sticker size (ie. Jason Spezza, Wayne Gretzky, Kari Lehtonen, Richard Brodeur, Brenden Morrow) but an autograph to me is an autograph. I'd be just as content with a Gordie Howe sticker auto as I would a hardsigned one, so long as the card looked nice in the end.

Personnaly, I don't mind. I even prefer SPx JSY AU RC to SP Authentic AU RC (I might be the only one in the world though).

For my Nordiques collection, I prefer the appeal of Hard Signed Cards. They look quite better. But I'll never snob a Peter Stastny or a Michel Goulet AU because he signed on a sticker. :)

I think its a unique idea but can you imagine the mumbling about should one of the players not sign - you would be left with seven useless auto's. I realize that they could probably figure out a way to break them up at that point but, in the end, would you be any better off than you are now.

I personally prefer a nice crisp hardsigned card but if I pull a stick octo-graph, I am going to be more concerned with dropping it and wetting myself than the fact that there are stickers on it.
