Hi all,
Thought I'd share my pickups from the Spring Expo. As I said in the other thread, it was a positive experience and I am very happy with the haul!
In order to not pick a favourite, I'll show what I picked up in the order I picked them up. Apologies in advance for the terrible photos. I can't figure out how to do lighting.
17-18 and 18-19 Tim Horton's binders and assorted set needs
Literally the first booth that we stopped at was KC Collectibles (we started on the far end and worked our way left/south). I saw that he had some newer Tim's binders and so I thought I'd ask if he had the older ones that I was looking for. Turns out he did, so I bought them immediately as I have been looking for them for a while. I noticed that he (and many other vendors) had lots of the inserts from previous years Tim's sets so I actually ended up going back to him and picking up a number of cards I need for the previous years' sets.
Sorry, no photos of these because we've all seen them 45238236132 times.
15-16 SP Authentic All-Time Moments Darryl Sittler
I mentioned in another thread that I spent a lot of time at the Total Sports booth. The guys there had some nice stuff and I jotted a few things down in my notebook that I wanted to come back for. I tried to make a larger deal that would include this Sittler but we were a little too far away. I was finally able to trade for this one and it was a trade I was very comfortable with - moving a non-PC card for a PC card is always a good idea.
This one popped out at me for a number of reasons. It checks a lot of my boxes - Leaf legend, hard auto, nice photo, etc. Also the fact that it has the details of the game when he set the record for single-game points is amazing, and the photo is from that game as well. AND its autographed. This thing is going into the PC for a looooong time.
Side-note: after I made the deal and was leaving the booth, I thought to myself that I already had this card. I've got a few (too many) Leafs legends hard autos and I knew I had one that had something about Sittler's 10 point game but I couldn't figure out what it was. Finally I came home and checked my cards and the good news is that it wasn't a double - the card I had was the auto inscribed Esteemed Endorsements from Artifacts. Win win!
1923 V145 - 1 Paterson Red Green Hamilton Tigers PSA 1, 1923 V145 - 1 Paterson Shorty Green Hamilton Tigers PSA 1, 1924 Champ's Cigarette "Mickey" Roach PSA 4
I'll start by saying that I have very few vintage cards and I really do not know the market that well. I normally skip by the vintage dealers at the Expo, not because I don't appreciate the cards but I just don't know that much about them and its never something I'm really too interested in. For some reason I stopped at Bossa's booth and had a small chat. Great guy. I peeked at his showcase and the Red and Shorty Green cards popped out at me for a few reasons. First was the age - I know there's older cards, but the fact that these cards are 100 years old is CRAZY to me. The second was the fact that at the bottom of the cards it says "Hamilton" and "National Hockey League". Being born and raised and currently living in Hamilton, I thought this was the coolest thing. Let's add here that the photos of Red and Shorty are so nice too - just two good lookin' dudes playing hockey for Hamilton in the NHL. <<insert take my money gif here>>. He said if I was interested he could help me out with getting to the right price. It was then that I saw the Mickey Roach and man I just needed that card. First of all it was a PSA 4, nice photo, but the photo has a picture of the Hamilton Tigers jersey, something you don't see too much of. On the back is actually a write up of Mickey Roach, AND it was produced by the Tobacco Products Corporation of Canada, LTD, in Hamilton Ontario.
I truly had no idea of the value of these cards, but it was super cool to chat with the dealer and learn a little more about them. They weren't in my budget for the weekend, but man, I needed these things. We came to a price that was much lower than his sticker price so I pulled the trigger. Straight to the PC.

2016 President's Choice Blue White Centennial Assigned Seat Frank Mahovlich Auto 3/3
A Wad of Cards was one of the last booths that we visited and I was happy to meet Grant. We talked about what we collected and I said the same old "old leaf guy hard autos" and so I saw in his showcase the Mahovlich auto. I have a lot of President's Choice and other non-licensed stuff, so no knocks there, but I generally try to stick to licensed cards. Nevertheless as soon as I saw it I knew it was cool. Taking a closer look at it and looking at the back, I learned that it was an autograph of a piece of seat from Maple Leaf Gardens. This started checking things off my checklist - old leaf guy, hard auto, maple leaf gardens, card I don't have, etc. As we were chatting he mentioned that he had an extra Salming commemorative patch at home and that if I was interested then he could bring it in for me. Long story short, we touched base through email after the show and came to a very fair deal. Two of my buddies were headed to the show on Sunday so they were able to make the transaction on my behalf. Surprise surprise, these are also going straight into the PC. Only problem about this deal is now I have the itch to grab the Armstrong and Quinn commemorative patch (if you have one, or know where I can scoop a real one up, let me know)

Thanks for reading y'all. I hope you had a good Expo experience!
Oh, and GO LEAFS GO.
