Philadelphia and Toronto played their 41st game on Wednesday, so here we go.

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Atlantic Division

Florida 41 25 12 4 54
Detroit 41 21 13 7 49
Montreal 41 22 16 3 47
Boston 41 21 15 5 47
Ottawa 41 19 16 6 44
Tampa 41 20 17 4 44
Toronto 41 16 18 7 39
Buffalo 41 15 22 4 34

Metropolitan Division

Washington 41 31 7 3 65
NY Rangers 41 22 14 5 49
NY Islanders 41 22 14 5 49
Pittsburgh 41 20 16 5 45
New Jersey 41 20 16 5 45
Philadelphia 41 19 15 7 45
Carolina 41 16 18 7 39
Columbus 41 15 23 3 33

Florida's 12 game winning streak, combine with Montreal's cooling off, changed the standings quite a bit from the 20 game point. The Capitals are basically running away with the Metropolitan, as the Rangers have come back to earth since their hot start. the Penguins grab that 8th seed in the East due to more reg/OT wins than New Jersey.

Here's the playoff matches:

Washington (1) vs. Pittsburgh (WC2)
Florida (2) vs. Boston (WC2)
Detroit (A2) vs. Montreal (A3)
NY Rangers (M2) vs. NY Islanders (M3)

Some interesting tidbits about the Eastern Conference:

Toronto has not won a game within the division. They are 0/4/5
Florida has won 5 games in the shootout.
Philadelphia has had 15 of their games go past regulation, highest in the league. In contrast, Columbus has had only 6 games go to OT/SO.
Buffalo has played 23 home games and only 18 away games. But, in the East, this isn't as big of deal as if it was in the West.
The Atlantic division is only 6 games above .500 against the Western Conference.
Washington is a staggering 19 games above .500 in games decided in regulation. By contrast, Florida, first in the Atlantic, is only 7 games above .500 in regulation.
Toronto has been in 8 SO games, most in the league. Ottawa is second at 7

WESTERN CONFERENCE

Central Division

Dallas 41 28 9 4 60
Chicago 41 24 13 4 52
Minnesota 41 22 11 8 52
St. Louis 41 23 14 4 50
Nashville 41 19 15 7 45
Colorado 41 20 18 3 43
Winnipeg 41 19 19 3 41

Pacific Division

Los Angeles 41 26 12 3 55
Arizona 41 21 16 4 46
San Jose 41 21 18 2 44
Vancouver 41 16 16 9 41
Anaheim 41 17 17 7 41
Calgary 41 19 20 2 40
Edmonton 41 17 21 3 37

The Central Division is by far the best division. The last place team (Winnipeg) is at .500. They have 5 teams in the playoffs. the Pacific Division, which is getting a reputation for being weak, is actually the 'tightest' division, with 19 points separating first and last.

Playoff matchups:

Dallas (1) vs. Nashville (WC2)
Los Angeles (2) vs. St. Louis (WC1)
Chicago (C2 vs. Minnesota (C3)
Arizona (P2) vs. San Jose (P3)

Stuff about the Western Conference:

Minnesota is minus 7 if you take OT/SO wins and subtract OT/SO losses. Vancouver and Anaheim are next at -5
Chicago, even though they are in 2nd place, has the least amount of regulation wins in the Central Division. 9 of their wins have been in extra time.
Colorado is the only team in the NHL to have not gone to a shootout.
Minnesota and Vancouver don't like 3-on-3... They both have 7 OT losses.
Winnipeg 'gits er dun' in regulation - they've only had 4 games go to extra time.
Edmonton only has 8 regulation wins, fewest in the league; they have 9 in OT/SO.
Calgary is similar, with 9 of their 19 wins coming in extra time.

Could go on-and-on, there's so much to look at. But, I have to go clean the gutters at my parents' house.

there you go!

I was thinking of doing something like this, and here it is. Thanks for the breakdown. Should be an interesting race to the playoffs this year.

There's a very good chance that we will end up with two "generational" talents in Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews belonging to teams from Alberta.
