Steven Stamkos?

Nobody is untradeable. You could compile a full list of 10+ players I'm sure that you would trade for him. But will he get traded?.....probably not.

HUH???

Stevie Y will build the team around him, you can expect Lecavalier to go before Stamkos.
They have plenty of time to cap him out before next year.

Exactly - Stamkos is the new face of the franchise - besides, he's only a RFA next year, correct? A player in that position still really doesn't have a lot of clout in negotiations, nor the leverage to ask to be traded. Besides, I don't think he could be in a much better place with Yzerman there, and being away from the hockey hotbed spotlight.

The only way Stamkos ends up playing out of another city when his contract is up is if Tampa Bay moves their whole team.

I am gonna make a prediction. Lecavalier gets traded to la and the Kings will let go of Handzus because he is also in the end of his contract.

I think Suitman19 says it best - Stevie Y is a very smart hockey man so there is pretty much zero chance of Stamkos leaving Tampa. His best years are still ahead of him. With the management of past years in Tampa anything would have been possible.

In this instance if Tampa moves Stamkos this year then they may as well move the franchise.

I don't think that will be the case. Tampa has actually been drawing solid attendance and they have a good team.

I'd be more inclined to see Columbus look to move Nash or Nashville to move Weber as both those teams are hurting attendance wise.

The chances of Stamkos being traded are about the same as the Leafs winning the cup. Stamkos is the franchise and there is nothing any team can even think about giving Tampa that would make them even think about moving him.

Stamkos is the best player in the world right now and is the player you bulid championship teams around so he ain't going any time soon.

If he's RFa, what's to prevent a GM making a run at him? Yzerman is smart but he's also on a budget.

Considering what Stammer will command on the market, the team would have to give up a ton of draft picks to sign him, and that's assuming Yzerman doesn't just match the offer, and assuming they don't sign him to an extension before the end of the contract.

Also, the expiring CBA may play in, though I'd assume Yzerman would be willing to have Stamkos signed through whatever lockout or work stoppage may happen.

The answer to that question - I believe will be the NHL itself.

Reason A - In an effort to reign in ridicuous offers that end up hogtieing the franchises - I believe the NHL in the future will not allow RFA offers that break a teams bank - or that they cannot reasonably afford to pay without dumping salary al Lou Lamarillo.

Reason B - Is that the allure of playing for Stevie Y and building something in Tampa Bay ( I believe with the new Lightning ownership - Florida Panthers would move before TB!). You can bet that some players will give Stevie Y a hometown discount - he is that RESPECTED around hockey circles. He will point to the Red Wings - say that is what we will build, a championship caliber team year in and year out, let's do it together. Say what tyou want about Detroit - but what player does not want to contend every year??? And ask EVERY NHL player that came through Detroit - they will tell you it was, at the very least, among the best 3 places/franchises to play for in the league.
Me thinks the players - especially young ones - will listen.
