The success of Canada on the international hockey scene is undeniable and some of the game’s greatest talents have proudly led their country to success over the years. Collectors have been able to track down fantastic cards of their heroes over the years, but Upper Deck has just announced a monumental high-end limited set in 2015-16 Upper Deck Team Canada Master Collection which looks to set the gold standard for Team Canada on cardboard.
Limited to just 499 sets and exclusive to Canadian card stores, it has been revealed that Upper Deck has spent several years planning and making this product and it will release with no autograph redemptions. It is geared toward high-end collectors and hits the shelves on August 26.
What can collectors expect to find inside boxes of 2015-16 Upper Deck Team Canada Master Collection? Find out after the jump.
Base Set
Each Team Canada Master Collection box will contain a complete 50-card base set which draws from the remarkable pool of talent which has worn a red and white sweater proudly over the past 40 years. Naturally, each card is numbered to 499, but there is also Silver Spectrum parallel which is a one-of-one for each of them in addition to an autographed edition for most players limited to 25 copies or less.
Autographs
The lineup of autograph cards features a broad selection of players and there are 10 of these hits in each box. The action begins with Inscriptions (numbered to 25 or less) and some of these cards do have special notations on them. The 10-card Luminaries collection is loaded with Hall of Fame talent and in an interesting twist, Upper Deck made the most plentiful ones of Bobby Orr and Wayne Gretzky.
Team Canada Signatures (numbered to 25 or less) is made up of roughly 60 different players who have signed their names in gold ink on a sharp red background that is accented with gold foil. There are additional versions of these cards which can have anywhere from two to eight autographs on them and the player combinations often appear to be themed around teammates or by position.
Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence is referenced in a small Signatures set which combines two players and there are Quad Jersey (numbered to 99) and Quad Patch (numbered to 25) cards which are signed.
Winning Standard Signatures is all about primarily active players that have struck gold during international competition and has multi-signed editions which could have as many as eight autographs on them. Many of the same stars are also part of the Winning Standard Signed Jumbo Swatch collection that has both jersey and patch versions.
Perhaps the most dazzling on all the autograph hits, however, are the Team Canada Signature Moments Booklets (numbered to 25). Some of the greatest performances at the international level are celebrated here. The Team Canada Signature Moments Combos Booklets (limited to 10) will be even more sought-after since they are connected to some of Canada’s most thrilling on-ice exploits such as Gretzky combining with Mario Lemieux to score the winning goal at the 1987 Canada Cup.
