I know UD and Karvin have been taking a lot of flack for the redemption replacements and cards that won't be made. However, I have to give credit when credit is due and BIG Thanks to Karvin for getting some of these redemptions that have been "in stock" finally out! I logged on today and here is my que:

From "IN STOCK" to Ship in Process:

JOE THORNTON / JONATHAN CHEECHOO 05/06 NHL THE CUP AUTO NHL SHIELD

HENRIK ZETTERBERG/ JOHAN FRANZEN
2005/06 NHL SPA SIGN OF THE TIMES DUAL AUTO

JOE THORNTON/ JONATHAN CHEECHOO
2005/06 NHL SPA PRESTIGIOUS PAIRINGS LEVEL 1

From "waiting for athlete" to "In stock ship soon."

GUY LAFLEUR 05/06 NHL SP GAME USED AUTO OLDTIMERS CLASSIC JRSY CD # OCA-GL # TO 100

5/11/2006 THORNTON/NABOKOV/CHECHOO/ MARLEAU/CLOWE
2005/06 NHL SPA SIGN OF THE TIMES FIVES AUTO

Just wanted to say at least redemptions are moving out and finally getting some resolution and BIG Thanks to Karvin for getting the ball moving.. Just tired of all NEGATIVE rants, and the good should be called out as well!!!
Thanks
L

Karvin's totally standup, and I'm glad to see him taking this bull by the horns.

Glad to hear the news, L.

Lionel - those are going to be some amazing cards, especially the Dual shield. Hopefully all of the sticks come through for you also!

Karvin is doing a great job. It is great to see such a great guy take the inititive in trying to fix such a complex situation. It's early, but so far he is making good progress. Keep up the good work!

Ok I feel like the big idiot here, but who is this Karvin guy? I know Carlin, but have just started hearing this new name. I have a non-hockey redemption sitting out there since July of 05 that I would love to just have knocked off my list. Fill me in peeps.

Is this a joke thread? ;)
I guess I should have seen it coming, what with the "thank" "UD" in the same sentence, not followed by laughter or negation. :D

Karvin that Lionel is talking about is Karvin Cheung he is a product manager. Basically he is one of the few people left at upper deck that actually has a clue. That Carlin character you mentioned, I believe he is kept around strictly for entertainment :D

Meth,

Thank you for the info...The last time I actually got a hold of Carlin he did make good for several crappy redemptions I had sitting out there, but that was the last I heard from him. If anyone wants to pass Mr Karvin's info along to me by PM that would be cool.
Thanks again,
Don

Karvin's a stand-up guy... if he worked at ITG, I bet the entire hobby would be praising him. Hmmm... maybe he should send Brian Price a resume??? ;)

Fellow Board Members,

I think you should be saluting Chad Capone for his efforts in reolving theredemption issues. He is the one that is spearheading the whole operation. I know there will be some peeved off people with the cards not being replaced, but we will work our best to come up with comparable replacements.

I really wish that we could reach out to every collector on a personal level, but more than likely we will not be able too.

Still trucking along and hopefully we will be finished soon

As a courtesy please don't discuss our names on the Beckett boards, and only on HI

Thanks for your support and patience

Karvin:

I applaud you for joining the discussion and I am glad for Lionel, but forgive me if I don't join others here in giving a standing ovation.

It's good that you understand there will be "some peeved off people with the cards not being replaced," but I'm not sure anyone at UD understands completely WHY they'll be peeved. The fact of the matter is the redemption card is a promise from UD - a promise that the card denoted will be provided, and provided within a reasonable period of time. I suspect UD wouldn't be too happy if our promise to pay for the product was deferred for months or years. Moreover, merely providing a replacement you deem comparable doesn't help those who wanted a particular card to complete a set, nor does it help those still silly enough to believe enough in the integrity of the redemption card's promise to purchase one on the secondary market for their player collection.

It's beyond problematic that most of us now don't even seem to bother calling about missing redemptions unless at least a year passes. I only have a couple of outstanding redemptions (although that's only because UD has made it clear that it's not wise to have them anymore) and numerous other collectors have far many more outstanding RCs than I do.

But this all needs to be put into the perspective of reality, not the vacuum that is the hobby. I'm about to leave for the job at which I work 10-12 hours a day to support my hobby habit. I have a dual auto outstanding that has shown as in stock and available for shipping since October of 2006. In the time I've been waiting for UD to meet its promise on this one card, I have sold one house and bought another, moved in, lost a mother-in-law, started a new job, and my wife has retired.

It will be terrific if UD's going to square away this mess once and for all, but honestly? It's what we should expect and demand for our money, not applaud when it finally happens.

Respectfully,
David

Agreed! Let's forget about Karvin and name today, Feb. 13, 2007, Chad Capone Day! :D :D :D . Karvin had his moment in the sun but that was yesterday, time to move onto a new hero! -Mike:p

Mike with all due respect, until my redemption page is blank and I am happy with either my current pending redemptions or replacements I won't throw the word hero around, its a strong word. Batman = Hero, Superman = Hero, Jessica Alba... well you get the idea ;)

Lionel I hope for your sake your auto sticks are handled in the same manner because I am sure if you hear they are being replaced you will add a different reply to this thread. I am hoping you get them because its an awesome looking set and I know you spent a ton of time, resources and money to get where you are with it to date.

Agreed. At least something is being done. First major step :D

Cheers.

Things that make ya go 'HHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!' Thanks for the chuckle nonetheless! :D

Now if I could only get resolution on my outstanding Langway redemptions outta SPGU? ;) Thanks in advance.
