Demko had a great 3 game stretch keeping out shots after shots but did not win the Cup out of nowhere like Binnington did. If you have a stack of his RCs, would you sell or hold? Your opinion?

I'll put it this way. I've got his Ultimate Collection Rookie Auto and I'm trying to sell it as quickly as I can. That said, I've already missed the boat a bit by not being able to sell it over the weekend.

I say sell.

Who knows if/when the 20-21 season will start up again and what his play will be like in the long haul. His max value would be this year if he went all the way, but they were eliminated.

Still a lot of uncertainty surrounding Markstrom and whether he re-signs. If he does then Demko will have a hard time winning the net in the near future.

Good point, though I think the argument could be made that Demko ran Markstrom out of town with his play in the second round. Not saying Markstromg won't come back, but I'd think Demko's play would make the Vancouver front office a lot more confident they can move on from Markstrom and hand Demko the starting gig.

Too small a sample. Demko was getting shelled when Markstrom went down in the second half of the regular season. Do they go by a few hot playoff games or the stretch where he struggled in his first real taste of a starting job? They can't let too much recency bias cloud their decision.

Let's also keep in mind that we're likely looking at a very condensed schedule and a lot of B2Bs whenever hockey comes back for the 2020-21 season. Tandems are going to be more important than ever. If they can keep Markstrom without crippling their cap I think they'll do it because until everything gets back to normal in a couple of years teams are going to need two excellent goalies to contend.

I fully agree with you, and believe that is what they should do. But, we also live in a world of "what have you done for me lately?" and that could impact the decision, whether it should or not. Will be interesting to see what happens.

I'm guessing the ship has sailed on maxing out the price. Before the Canucks were eliminated, that was the time to sell. I'm assuming his cards are still going for well above what they were a month ago though.

If it were me, I'd be selling. My guess is most of his stuff will drop for the next few months. The Canucks have a good team.... and he's likely the goalie of the future (he was supposed to be that before his hot streak). I'm guessing he'll be the #1B goalie for the medium term.... Markstrom will be resigned for 3-4 years.... so I don't see him exploding upwards anytime soon.

My thought would be sell now, and buy them back in January, when they're half the price again.

Of course maybe the hockey card market will just keep shooting upwards. What do I know. lol

He is the most exciting young up and coming goaltender to play for a Canadian team since Cary Price's arrival IMO. This kid is the future #1 for the Canucks, who haven't seen a buzz like this over a young, franchise drafted and developed goalie breaking into the league in very long time, if they ever have. He still very young by NHL goalie standards and still has plenty of room to grow as a goaltender, but looks fantastic and just proved he belongs in the league. With Young Guns still only around 25-30 bucks and Cup/sp authentic still going sub $100 range he still has plenty of upside in the long term value wise. If you're needing to cash in in the next 6 months or less then sell if you can at this point. Otherwise hang on and watch as he hopefully realizes his potential moving ahead. Canucks Nation hopes he is a key part of the core group that finally leads us to the promised land where the Ghosts of Game Seven are finally defeated. And if that happens current valuations will look cheap, especially with the serial numbered RC's. :)

It would depend on what I have into them... if it's a bunch of young guns that came real cheap, what's the harm in holding all (or some) and seeing how much further they can go? Just have to ask yourself what you're willing to lose...

No sense in getting greedy though either... if stuff is up 3, 4 10x... what are you waiting for?

Yep, I'm absolutely no help. lol

I may be in the minority, but I find the hype over goalie RC's mind-boggling. With many teams realizing that a platoon system is more beneficial, and that goalies can run hot and cold at any time, isn't investing in goalies just plain silliness? Over the past 15 years, who has maintained their hobby relevance rookie-wise? Fleury, Lundqvist, Price, Quick, Vasilevskiy.... maybe John Gibson... I see far more highly touted and prospected goalies ending up being worthless than any other position.

Sell Demko ASAP, and literally anyone else who has a big game lately

I remember sitting on low-numbered Robert Esche Pacific parallel after that he got some decent time at the Olympic Games. It was the time to sell, he had a far from stellar career after that.

Def John Gibson. I speak from experience haha. He has many more years of playing well and hopefully raising a cup (cups) as well as olympic medals. At least i hope so!

Value aside the Demko YG kills it in the looks department. Hands down one of the nicest looking YGs I've ever seen. The design and the photo and the colors on his gear just all come together perfectly.

When prices come down I may buy one just to look at it.

Values on his Young Gun have come off their peak of $35-40 a bit but are still going in the $20-25 range raw. Graded at a solid premium. Any limited cards like Cup rookies and especially SP Authentic /999 RC's come up for online auction in surprisingly limited numbers considering how many should be out there this many years after release.

I would sell if I had any. The Canucks signed Holtby as a UFA. Now I figure that it will be a 50/50 split or close to for this season and maybe shift it a little in Demko’s favour next year. Yet it won’t be until the season after that the he will be the true number one starting goalie. Only way that I see his cards going up in value are if he is in net for a long playoff run.

Pretty much this, yeah.
