The Drama That Is - Jay Cutler

I dont see the problem with what Jay Gutler did in Denver. when a new coach comes in and sneaks aroudn tryign to trade you to get his BFF in town, then yeah, I would be upset. Then the coach cant even meet with you and tell you about it, you learn about it in the paper? WTF???

And you Denver fans, dont be hypocrites and forget what John Elway did to the Colts.

Reeves tried to trade Elway and got over it too. Keep in mind that when Shanahan and Bates were fired - that's when he first asked for a trade, and that was before McDaniels got in there.

The way Cutler has acted reeks of Jeff George, he might have a great arm, a big mouth and mush for grey matter that has folded faster than a 10 cent tent whenever there was something on the line

I am a Broncos fan since the mid 80's and all I can say is I hope this kid is better at drafting then Mike was. Our drafts have been horrible with the exception of 06 (Cutler,Marshall,Dumervil,Scheffler). Last year turned out Royal and Clady but other then that brutal. If he isn't then we got Orton for Cutler and well we got hosed. I don't wish Cutler well, both sides could and should have handled it a lot better and this McDaniels kid better win and win a lot or else he is going to get strung up in Broncos Country.

I was talking more about the gun that Elway held to the head of the Colts when they drafted him.

And Im sorry, whern a Rookie Coach comes in, and hsi first move is to try and replace the Franchise QB, I would want out too, thats just my opinion though.

If he was been actively shopped around - that's fine - but when Cutler starts acting like Brett Favre when he's accomplished nothing really other than racking up stats - it's time to grow up. Judging by his antics the last couple of years - which includes beaking off to the Chargers as well as telling all of Denver that he has a better arm than Elway - he has less emotional maturity than an eggplant. If that's supposed to be the face of your franchise, I'd be looking at all options too if I was part of management.

It's professional sports, and anyone is expendable. Somehow Cutler seems to think he's above it and that he can call the shots because he has a big contract. That doesn't mean jack in the NFL - where no contract is guaranteed. If he can't handle having his feelings hurt and act like a professional, he's not going to last long anywhere. The only place more fitting for him to go would've been Washington, where he'd get buried by the fans and the media, or San Francisco, where he can waste the rest of his career until ownership gets a clue.

And in Elway's case - he told Baltimore ahead of the draft not to pick him - yet they did it anyways. When you pick someone who wasn't going to go there in the first place and do that anyways, you get what you deserve. There's a reason why the Colts used to be a laughing stock of a franchise.

So he was a kid who thought he was bigger then the NFL, and could tell teams what to do?? Sounds like a cocky kid(Jay Cutler) with a big arm that also used to play in Denver, lol. Elway had no right to do what he did either.

I dont disagree with what you say about him being expendable, Im just pointing out the sneakiness of the new coach. He wasnt there for a few months, and hes shopping the franchise QB for his buddy back in NE?? Come on, the man has a right to be pissed off, and im sure theres a whole lot more that went down that we dont know about.

Im just saying I can understand why he didnt want to be there. I can also agree that he should have handled it better, but let me ask you this. Woudl you stay soemwhere where they actively tried to fire you, or send you somewhere else behind your back?? I wouldnt if I had a choice, and he forced the issue.

I love that this is being argued from the stance that one of them is somehow more right that the other.

McDaniels & the Broncos are at fault for lying about trying to get Cassels. Cutler is at fault for his handling of the situation and his BS statements after the fact. "I didn't want this"? Obviously, Jay, ya did.

Now if we can move on, that'd be great but that won't happen because the media will spend the summer talking about it. I haven't looked at the schedule but God help us if the Bears and the Broncos play.

Cutler's not going anywhere. He's gonna get over being butt-hurt and be the quarterback for the Broncos on opening day. The reason is that the Broncos wont trade him. Any team trading for him would have to return a starting-caliber QB, period. The teams that want/need him don't have one, thus the interest in Cutler.

The ones who could return fair QB value for Cutler are teams like the Cowboys (Romo), Packers (Rodgers), Eagles (McNabb) and Chiefs (Cassel...HA HA!) and they wouldn't make the move. Teams like Cleveland, who could move Anderson or Quinn, and Jacksonville, who could offer Garrard, wouldn't offer decent replacement value for a Pro Bowl QB like Cutler so the Broncos wouldn't deal with them unless they absolutely had to. Teams who would LOVE to get Cutler (Lions, Bucs, Jets, etc.) don't have nearly enough to offer. The only reason the Bucs were in line to get Cutler in the 3-way trade that didn't happen was because the Broncos were in line to get Cassel.

The Broncos are not going to be happy with Chris Simms as their starter and the available free agent QBs (guys like Byron Leftwich and Jeff Garcia) are stopgaps at best. They already have a franchise QB and aren't gonna just give him up for a 1st round draft pick and a bag of footballs just because his feelings were hurt. He'll suck it up and play for the Broncos or he'll sit home waiting for a trade that wont come and not get paid.

Mmmmm...this big plate of crow sure is tasty.

I didn't count on the Bears really jumping in because I didn't think Angelo had the stones to make the deal. Boy was I wrong...

I think the Bears overpaid and that Orton is going to be a terrific fit in Denver's offense. I also think Cutler will succeed in Chicago, but he wont approach the numbers he had last season and the Bears aren't assured a playoff spot just by Cutler's mere presence.

If they fail to make the playoffs this year, I wouldn't rule out a coaching change in Chicago. Perhaps the door will be open for a Cutler-Shanahan reunion?

I personally think he had every right to do what he did. It is his life to live and I think it is nice to see someone with their own agenda and emotions shown for real. In this sports world of PC horseyshiite and publicist media training and wrangling, I tire of the interview canned emotion and "We are gonna give it our all this year and see how it turns out, hopefully well..." laughtrack...
Saying "it is the way of professional sports and grow up," simply does not play in my playbook. Any professional has all the options in the world to choose and if that choice goes against giving the organization a rimjob daily because the world says it must be done, I applaud.
All that being said, I do not care for Jay Cutler in any sense, just so I do not get flamed for my post because I am a dirty Cutler lover.

I think people put to much credit in First round draft picks. You can go back and look at all the Duds from the first round. (Heck how many #1 overalls pan out?)

The Fact of the matter is Cutler could be a Franchise QB. The Bears havn't had that in a very long time.

Do I think the Bears are a Super Bowl Team now? No

Did they upgrade the QB spot? Yes

I'm Pleased with this trade.

Where do I get my Cutler Bears jersey?

As a Bears fan, I have two differing opinions. Cutler is an upgrade at the QB position for sure. However, they don't have a Brandon Marshall on their roster and Cutler needs a receiver like that. If they are smart, and somehow a guy like Percy Harven drops to them in the second round (which I highly doubt), they better grab him. The current Bears offensive gameplan also does not help Cutler at all. With the emergence of Forte out of the backfield, they need to adapt a west coast style offense. If they put together a gameplan like San Diego, running play action with Forte coming out as a receiver, and use Olson and Clark in a two tight end set, they could be very succesful in their division. I can't see Lovie hanging onto his job after this year unless they win the division and win a playoff game or two. They need a new start, a more offensive minded coach, and a real playmaker from the wide receiver position. Otherwise, I don't see this being a smart move by the Bears.
