Is that can you not often find them used by an NHL player for cheaper than the stick itself would sell for? I'm not 100% sure on this, but I don't think money would be too much of an issue when it comes to pro gear, so I'd imagine retail sticks would be more expensive than the 50-100$ you might spend on a NHLer's stick . So my question is, has anybody ever used game-used equipment in general for recreation leagues as a way to save money or just to show off?

I do know they have different warrenties on them. I think for 'civilian' use they warranty them a year? and pros don't get one. They used to sell off all the OHL team sticks and people would either repair the shafts or add a wood blade. I used to fix them for team autographs and what not.

yea i've heard of people buying them at equipment sales and using them, most the time you can get a really nice stick for cheap. one guy on my team had a few corey perry's he was using.

I've been using the same two shafts for the past 9-10 years -- both garbage picked from my reporting days in the IHL. One is a Jason Podollan from the Detroit Vipers, and one is a Philippe Boucher from the Manitoba Moose.

I sincerely doubt I'll ever break them.

There is a 30 day warranty on retail sticks while there are no warranties on pro stock/return sticks.

Pro sticks aren't covered by warranty. All of them have a special marking on them to differentiate between retail sticks for the general public for that specific reason mentioned.

Just picked up a PJ Axelson stick for 25.00 from the Bruins Proshop a Bauer one95 and it is solid... Would use that if I already did not have 2 retail sticks..

I used a signed Ryan O'Marra game used Synergy SL for the 2nd half of my Senior year in High School. I got it for $20 at an Otters game and this was literally about a week after the SLs came out. I eventually cracked the blade and now have it with the rest of my GU sticks.
Luckily in college I had a friend who worked at a pro-shop so I got all my sticks for incredible prices.

My dorm mate back in the day had an uncle who worked for the Moncton Golden Flames and he got me a stick that I used to play with for inter varsity hockey.

When I left school I left the stick behind with someone

That player was Brett Hull

I also obtained a Mike Eastwood stick after his days with the local Baby Leafs
which I used for rec hockey

Right now I am switching between Orr's 1970 Cup winning goal stick and Henderson's 1972 Game 8 stick

(I have access to the HHOF BTW, but I probably shouldn't have said that)

We used to play street hockey with game used sticks we bought at Louisville Icehawks games when I was a kid. If I remember correctly they were $20-25, around the same price as the roller hockey sticks at sporting goods stores.

My stepdad tried to make a couple of sticks based off of the game used ones we had. They weren't the best sticks ever but they were free and did the job.

when i was a teen playing floor hockey i'd practice my shot with a wooden Tony McKegney game-used stick that I have. The extra weight helped me sharpen my wrist shot.

Of course, it also helped that my dad collected shafts that he'd use in his garden. not game used or anything, but really invaluable for practicing my shot. He wrangled up an aluminum shaft and a fibreglass composite this year :)

If he still has them PM me as I may be interested. That is if the paperwork came with them. I could get Corey to sign it and auction it off at our event.

Cheers

ya i have used one. didn't buy it got it given to me. but anyways, they are great sticks for performance and what not but the break and have flex as if u were using a junior or a youth stick and you were for say a 20 year man or whatever age u want to say they are very bad for quality

i still have it to this day. i got it 2 years ago

I really miss watching the otters games, we had season tickets for their last couple of years.

Very interesting, reminds me somebody was selling game-used Johan Holmqvist sticks on ebay, and I wish I had picked one up. Thanks for the responses.

I use two Shannahan Warrior Dolomites in my ice leagues and two Zajac Easton S17s for my roller leagues.
I picked up all four for $200 ($50 a pop), about the price ONE s17 would sell for at one point.
Already broke one s17 but at $50 i don't care too much
