After work today, I'm going to find out if this whole "Bowman shortage" is real or not by going about town looking for it. The idea is that (supposedly) the retail packs are so much cheaper than the hobby packs, and seeing how Strasburg mania is abound, that Bowman and Bowman Chrome is disappearing from retail outlets and may very well be gone. As a Chrome collector, I find this a problem if I can't get any cards except on the secondary market.

So today I'll be heading out and seeing for myself. If it is not as bad as is being reported online, it may be a very short trip. Otherwise if it ends up being a hunt then that will be more fun. I'm going to bring my netbook in case the hunt is on and hopefully will be able to post updates from the field. It seems like a dumb idea but think of it as some crazy live break post.

If I can't find any wifi to post from then I'll just have to do a summary when I get back.

Yeah well, as you can tell I didn't end up posting anything. Yes I know that the hobby stores have hobby packs but I wasn't interested in the huge price difference. I went out with Brian and we didn't find ANY Bowman of any kind. Well that's not true. I did buy a Blaster of 08 Bowman and pulled an auto, and got some other neat stuff, but definately was MISSION FAILED if you ask me. I think we went to 9 stores and came up empty.

Also, I had over-estimated the ability of my netbook to connect to WiFi networks from parking lots. bleh.

Bowman Baseball is getting very hard to find, even for retailers. Its also getting far too expensive. Bowman Chrome hits the shelves in October, so there are plenty of guys around to do pre-orders of it, including ourselves.

I have a bad feeling that Topps is going to run the presses on Bowman Chrome. They've already made Allen and Ginter into a joke (some guy busted 25 cases and pulled ZERO Strasburgs and Topps still claims that the card isn't short printed). I bought into Bowman early and only wish I had saved those boxes to sell now.

Been to my Walmart and Target and nothing.. asked if they were getting any in and they just looked at me like I had 2 heads.. lol I am guessing they do not have a clue. I am going on Vacation to Virginia so I will have to check it out down there but I am willing to doubt it since it is only 2 hours from DC...

I'm usually surprised if the people at the store even know where the cards are. I didn't bother going to walmart near me. I went there a while back to pick up some TF exclusives and it took me about 20 minutes to find the toy department. Finding where the cards are? No thank you.
