If you were at the helm, what are you doing for players and front office:

1. Who are you keeping
2. Who are you dumping
3. Who are you stuck with due to horrible contracts
4. What/who is you number one target this off season

1.) Most of the roster likely is as it is, but dumping Matthews or Nylander would be dumb.
2.) Marner has to go. Nylander is their best playoff performer, Matthews at least uses his physicality to make an impact when he isn't scoring, but Marner disappears entirely.
3.) Tavares and that albatross deal aren't going anywhere.
4.) They need a really good bottom six that can control possession, kill penalties, and do the dirty work in the postseason. Stefan Noesen is a good pick depending on his price. Debrusk would be a nice add, especially if you can move Marner to free up some space.

Honestly, I think it's similar to the Buffalo Bills of the NFL. The talent is in place and it's more of a franchise state of mind. I know "nut up and do it" isn't really a helpful suggestion, but sometimes you just have to nut up and do it.

My first move would be to install Woll as our number one goalie possibly backed up by Jones who is a vet and always turns in a decent effort. I have nothing against Sammy, ne was lights out good in game seven but he needs to be a starter somewhere,so he becomes the odd man out in the equation.
As for Marner, he has a boat load of talent but he is not a battler like the others. We need to get something substantial in return for Mitch. JT isn’t going anywhere and neither are Auston or Willy. Nylander took his game to another level this year and matured I think.
So impressed with Benoit and McCabe, rose to the occasion in round one for sure. Rielly is still playing top minutes, like to see Edmundson remain, beyond that we need to pickup some decent d in the off season.Giordano probably retires and Brodie hasn’t got it anymore as a top 4 guy, still could be on the third pairing.
At any rate there was no shame in losing in OT in game seven, however with the right off season deals maybe we find a way to win in that situation, or we never let it reach that point.
Cheers.
Dan.
