open discussion leading up to the finale on December 4th, we should have had one for the entire season but i didn't think it would attract much attention. this might though. i am rootin' for demian maia.

TUF 12 quarter finals matchup:

Michael Johnson (Team GSP) vs. Nam Phan (Team Koscheck)
Kyle Watson (Team GSP) vs. Jonathan Brookins (Team GSP)

i got nam and brookins in the finals and can see brookins taking it all. MJ needs some serious work on his cardio and i just don't see him being able to handle nam. kyle watson might be hughes' bjj coach but brookins is just awesome. plus the kid was able to last the longest with jose aldo (other than urijah faber)
 
You know what I miss about the Ultimate Fighter finales? The shows where it was about the fighters ON THE SHOW and not 7 fights featuring other fighters on the roster with one final match. Sure, yeah, Jonny Hendricks and Rick Story are riding 4 fight win streaks and blah blah and so on...but seriously? Where's the love for the new guys? You're just gonna release most of these guys after the show now anyway...why not give them the chance to fight in front of a live audience to try and save their UFC jobs? Look how well it worked out for guys like Keith Jardine and Matt Hamill?
 
so it's set. the champ of TUF 12 will be settled between jon brookins and michael johnson.

i got brookins.

i really thought it would be nam phan in place of michael johnson but the 3rd and deciding round was too close to call it. it could've gone either way but hey, nothing like koscheck getting completely shut down on the show :)
 
What a terrible event. Terrible fights...terrible judging...just terrible overall. Under the UFC's new "Take risks or get fired" business model, how many people are going to be released after this event?

Leonard Garcia continues to amaze me. He's either the luckiest fighter on the face of the earth. The guy fights like a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tubeman. There's no style...there's no grace. He throws wild punches which connect about 8% of the time...he cuts his opponent open and somehow wins the fight. That judging system has been making horrible decisions but it's picked up moreso recently, with tonight's murder of the 10 point system being the latest and greatest. Honestly, I'm rarely critical of peoples' jobs and professions and the job they're doing because I know that when it comes down to it, I can't do it better. But you know what? I can judge MMA better than these boxing trained judges that sit down ringside, see a few haymakers land, see a couple drops of blood, and assume the bloodied fighter is losing. I've heard people say that judging is difficult and the judges themselves shouldn't be taken for granted, but realistically, what repercussions do they face? Keith Kizer seems content not to think there's a judging problem, but really, what repercussions does anybody there face for their crappy judging? You get showered with boos and possibly get a guy fired from his job. Big ****ing deal. You're back for the next event anyway to do it all over. I'd love to be an MMA judge. How great would it be to make a living where you can constantly make the wrong decision and then have no accountability for your actions whatsoever? (I admit I'm frustrated, and I'm sure they have to answer to the commission or something, but I don't really care about that right now.) I'd also like to say that in my criticism of judging, I don't think the 10 point system is to blame right now and I personally wouldn't change it (not even with the proposed half point systems) unless they decided to move to a judging system like PRIDE FC's. The problem is the judges themselves, and I think it's time to separate boxing judges from dedicated MMA judges like...now. A year from now, there's no reason for us to see Adalaide Byrd and Patricia Morse Jarman ringside judging an MMA match. Get knowledgable Mixed Martial Arts people in there instead.

Strikeforce killed this event tonight with 4 highlight reel knockouts on the main card. If you missed it, catch it on a replay or download it. If you want to see what happens when everybody comes to fight like the ultimate winner gets the last sandwich on earth, it's a card you'll enjoy.
 
i heard the SF fight in STL was quite epic. i might have to download it now. for the most part, this UFC event was quite the snoozefest.

glad maia won but i don't think it was a good idea to trade punches with grove, who has a significantly longer reach. and ENGLISH should've known better. cody is known for his guillotine. DON'T GET INTO THAT POSITION.
