The sets you would love to see?

This is a fun thread, and after much thought, here is my .02. I would love it if UD (or any other licensee...anyone...anyone...Buehler?) would take the general concept lf last year's Zenith football release and apply it to hockey. Heavy on dufex printing, one insert per pack, RC's somewhat limited but not impossible. They could skip the regular gu insert set, though, and we would probably like it more.

ITG pretty much had that idea already but took it to the next level with jersey swatches with their Stanley Cup Champions set. I believe they were limted to 40 copies each and had a ton of guys from the Av's version, I think even Dingman and Eric Messier were in that set!:eek:

HA, that would be crazy! Here L, I'll trade this sick Sharks patch that might come from Scott Hannan's jersey and not Cheechoo for that Kings patch that is looking like a Blake but might be a Willsie!:eek: ;) :p

Now gimme that Kopitar sticker for my Marleau!:p

As far as me personally, I would like to see some more international flavored stuff Like ITG International Ice but with HARD-signed autos and more current players.

I also would like to see more types of memorabilia used on cards, specifically helmets, skates and gloves, and have swatches of them signed like The Cup Scripted Swatches.

Can you imagine a black Pens helmet piece signed in silver or gold by Sid?

Or how about a fat swatch of black leather inked up by AO? (or fill in the player of your choice here)

I always clamored for something like the upcoming Sweet Shot Hockey product and cannot wait for the variations of materials used in there for the different level of graphs. Although not game sued I am sure the auto's will be very clean and bold on rubber, wood and plexi surfaces.

My final wish would be to tweak one of my favorite card designs ever a bit.

If there is ever another Cup product or something akin to the Property Of... set, I would ask they push the player picture far right or left then put 2 windows stacked on top fo each other, 1 for the player's autograph and one for the stick nameplate.

I've long wondered if they could do a gu set like the pinnacle coin cards - why not make the swatch pieces interchangeable? You could put the name and the number of the card the swatch is to match with on the back of whatever 'holder' you came up with (I favor a metallic one held in place by a magnet. :) )

Add in the interchangeable 'peel' off autos, and you can make your own cards! :)

That's cool for the high end guys, but I'm thinking more something that would be readily attainable for everyone who wanted to get one. Also, did the ITG game set have the Cup celebration pictures? That's really the main thing I would like to see. Every year there are a few celebration pictures sprinkled throughout the year, but I think a whole set would be really awesome.

As far as it ebing for the "high-end" guys, hey take it up to ITG, not me, LOL.:p It was still one of the nicest efforts ever done by ITG.

But yes, I see your point as insert-only or subset type cards.

That's the kind of set I'd like to see, but with the possibility for more than 40 people to have one, without breaking the bank... :D I think its the kind of set that would fit nicely into MVP.

So you mean instead of Upper Deck putting the wrong auto stickers and jersey swatches on the cards for us, we could do it OURSELVES?!?!

I was just thinking about Tricia's idea and how about this:

Upper Deck could replicate the bands off the Stanley Cup, cut them up and call them, "Hoisted Hunks". On the back they can say it from the actual Stanley Cup and not have to answer to anyone!!

I like both ideas. So why not do both? Do a relatively easy insert set, say 1:12 packs or something, and have a Game-Jersey version of each, printed to 50 copies. You get the best of both worlds, and it's actually a good use (in my opinion, of course :) ) of both jersey cards and parallel cards.

There are a lot of things I'd like to see in cards:

1) Please bring back inserts, parallels, and even base cards, that show that there was at least some artistic thought put into them. I am absolultely a member of the "Pacific and Donruss were great at that!" camp, but Upper Deck had some spectacular designs and technologies too. We know they're capable of it, and they even had a few glimmers of hope in 05-06 -- so why not do it all the time? Same goes for ITG, who hasn't used anything but foil stamping since 03-04.

2) I'm a huge fan of the comprehensive base sets, provided there aren't any tough parallels (say, nothing less than 100 copies). Why not go to the far extreme and print a 1,500-card base set? Include the entire current roster for each team, and tons of players from years and decades ago. You'll be able to fit in scrubs and nobodies, and you know what? You'd end up with a set that has more character than just about anything I can think of. You may end up with a handful of true-RCs. You'd certainly end up with a ton of set collectors up to the challenge -- while 1,500 is a daunting number, make sure nothing's shortprinted and you're good to go.

3) The IHL retrospective set I've been dreaming of since the darn league folded ;)
 
I'd like to see a set with the 79/80 OPC design, but with a 2007 twist.

All current players, with Auto'ed RC's to 199 and patches to 99. Pictures that actually show people skating also lol

and yes a redemption, but for a Gretzky RC or something along those lines

9.99 a box also....;)
