The tale of Mike Richter and the impossibly long Vic

I've been looking through a bunch of 90s sets for a project I'm working on (more to come on that later) and I came across this gem from 95-96 Collectors Choice. I'm not sure that the person that edited this card actually knows what a hockey stick looks like. Either that or Richter has opened up a portal to another dimension.

Seriously though, what the hell is going on here with his stick and right pad? What on earth would make someone make these choices?
