Thoughts on J'O's comment on the possible NBA age limit?

I saw someone on another site say something that mighthave some truth to it. That players that go to college are more confident and cocky and less intimadated by NBA players so they don't liten to them as much as High school players who are a little overwhelmed being in a room with nba players are more likely to listen to the pro's and try hard to impress them. A lot of rookies out of High school this year and last year had solid rookie seasons.

There were three this year, hardly a lot. And last year I can think of one off hand (James) and he's the exception to every NBA rule.

As far as college players being less intimidated that doesn't mean they don't listen it only means they don't need to be babied.

I still don't see any good reason for an age limit. The players out of high school are fan favorites, bringing in money to their teams and the NBA. Some have a huge impact on their team and are great players. The college game is a lot different than the pro's so I don't know how going to college would help players, not only because I don't think it would, but theres no evidence that it does. The way I see it is, no matter if you come out of college or high school, certain players will be good because they are talented enough to be in the league, and certain players will not be good enough regardless from where they come.

Who are two of the three front runners for NBA ROY this year Emeka and Gordon, and who are going to be on the all first team rookie team? All college players and Dwight Howard. Who was on it last year? All college players and LeBron. Your right some high school players are standouts, the age limit would protect teams from players like Ndudi Ebi and Korlenone Young, and protect kids like Lenny Cooke from themselves.

What's all this bad-mouthing Ndudi Ebi? You're talking about a top high-schooler who gets crap for minutes in the NBA. They had him playing 1.9 minutes per game last year in only 17 games, and in his only game for this season, he pulled down 8 boards (4 of which were offensive), almost scored in double figures, and even snagged himself a block.

You have to remember; they're not gonna replace KG with anybody. Ndudi was never even given a chance.

BigD, just using Ebi as an example of a player who would have benefited from college. He would have probably come out after his freshmen year (at Arizona) and been a much higher pick to a team that would have given him minutes. It's just an example of a player coming out too early.

So if Ebi went to college he would get more minutes? I dont think so. Players dont get superstar talent by going to college, they either have it or they dont. The ROY comment is weak considering there were only 8 high schoolers drafted compared to 30+ collegiate players. If there were an age limit, we would not have some of our greatest players and fan favorites nonetheless.

You still would have these players, they would just be better when they came into the league. Also, yes Ebi would have gotten more minutes by being a higher draft pick, which means he wouldn't be playing behind someone like Kevin Garnett. I'm still failing to see how an age limit HURTS the league.

Whether or not it hurts the league, the point is it's not beneficial, either. And to deny such an opportunity for these potential superstars is just rediculous. Imagine Amare Stoudemire going to college, working at McDonald's right now. The Suns would not be where they are now (granted Steve Nash is Mr. MVP but Amare does a lot of the work), and Amare would not be making top dollar for his superb talents.

It's all about relevancy and opportunity. Why deny either?

Ok, why do you keep saying players would be better if they went to college? Do you have any facts for that statement? I can name hundreds of players that went to college and came into the league and dont get many minutes and arent even any good. You can't name hundreds of high school players because there has been BY FAR more collegiate players drafted. LeBron James is averaging numbers in his 2nd year that only players like MJ and Bird averaged in their career (MJ only avg the numbers LeBron has ONCE in his career). Do you serioulsy think if LeBron went to college, he would come into the league and be averaging more than he does now in every stat category? I dont think so. I'm failing to see how not having an age limit hurts the league.
