... from the Hobby, that is.

I've been pondering this for quite some time now and it's been weighing heavily on me. But, there comes a time in everyone's life when decissions have to be made, no matter how tough they may be. However, Upper Deck's continued reign over the sportscard world, makes my decision easier.

I'm very proud of what I've accomplished in the hobby, with both my Goalie Inserts (over 400 completed sets), and my Marc-Andre Fleury collection (the most complete Fleury collection on the planet... IMO).

I'm not walking away totally, I'll still be on the boards occassionally, and picking up a few Fleury's here and there... but mainly, I'm pulling the pin. I'm hitting the big "Four Oh" this year and my wife and I want to spend time travelling and seeing the world before we're too old to enjoy it... and having a $2,000 to $3,000 PayPal bill each month makes it really hard to make that happen.

 Cheers to all those on the boards that have helped me along the way, especially Billie (srt4gurl), Tim (TurcoCollector3), Steve (Quincy), Frank (frankiefives), Kevin (KabbyKev), James (Big Tall), and anyone else that I've forgotten... you know who you are.

Peace and happiness...

Kendall

Wow Kendall. This is a bit surprising. Hope to see you around still. And hope you enjoy the extra $$. I am sure you will put it to good use.
cheers!

Keep in touch, Kendall... hate to see someone of your stature throw in the towel, but I'm with you on the reasons. Go see Scotland :)

Wow, kind of shocking, but we all have gone through it at one time or another. Have fun traveling the world with your wife and drop in once in a while

sad to hear your decision. i'll miss your COTWs. i recently did the same thing and stuck with just the highest end cards and a few specifics here and there that i like. i save much more money each month now so i know exactly how you feel.

hehe, I was mentioned first ;)

Kendall

I can sure relate to you circumstance... I went from over $1000.00 a month to $100.00 a month and feel better for it. Makes me have to pick and choose what I really want to add my PC!

All the best to you & yours.

Brian

Kendell, you will feel better not spending the money on this hobby like you do. Dont feel guilty about quitting. The lack of competition out and innovation is hurting the hobby anyways. On top of that, it will take the next Fleury collector behind you YEARS to build what your have built. Enjoy your well deserve break. I will definately miss reading your mail post.

I'll miss the MAF Card Of The Week posts too - they were awesome and one of the few posts I regularly looked out for.

Good luck on your travels, agree with meatmancgy - see Scotland! My advice, see Italy and Spain, beautiful. Better yet, sell the MAF collection and fly to the moon!

Good luck.

It's sad to see another 5 star member leave the hobby yet again, but your reasons are very respectable. I wonder how many more people we'll see leave.

Good luck and enjoy your travels.

suprised to see this.however a hobby should be just that and when it gets in the way of life, you have to shut the door on it.i've been at a happy medium for a long time now,but someday that will change.have fun in your travels, you MUST go to Maui,HI.paradise on Earth.

Sad to hear, Kendall, but I'm glad it was to hear that it has more to do with spending time with your loved one(s) and not a negative hobby-related issue.

My best to you and yours. Here's hoping we see some "Card of the Week" posts in the future.

Later Kendall, thanks for all your help with my collection, I appreciate it a ton. Hopefully this is just a minor hiatus but if not enjoy your time outside of this crazy hobby.

Also I would take a Hawaii trip, pretty much any island you go to is the best place in the world.

A moment of silence please, as is befitting the passing of one of the last diehard player completists from the hobby.

(...a few moments of quiet pass, then the opening bars of "Paradise City" play. What? It's not a wake! :p )

Ken, it's been a pleasure collecting alongside you these many years. I do hope to see you stick around in some measure.

first off, this is in no disrespect, as i have never met you nor have i really ever met anyone else on this board, but c'mon, this dude isnt dying. he's leaving the card world.
