Tom Wilson suspended 20 games

Someone should remind him he just signed a new contract and 20 games will cost a lot more than last year.

As a Caps fan, I was expecting him to get suspended. Heck, I was hoping he would, so maybe after his fourth in a year he would get it through his head that he has to play smarter.

That being said, I thought 20 games was a tad high. I was figuring close to the 10-12 game range. I thought 20 game suspensions were limited to those who do truely stupid things on the ice (see Torres, Raffi). But, that's what the appeals process is for.

The game has changed now. People need to come off the old school "can't cut to the middle with your head down" thinking. The NHL whether they want to admit or not know they have to do better protecting their players because of everything that is now known about CTE and the issues a lot of ex-players are going through later on in their life because of repeated head trauma.

That Wilson hit was fine 10 years ago but it's not anymore and he should know that.

He's entering Raffi Torres territory.

I disagree. While it was no doubt a shot to the head, it should still be considered a "hockey play." If he had gone through his core instead of standing straight up, we are not having this discussion.

Things like what Chris Simon, Dale Hunter, Raffi Torres, Marty McSorely, et al, did, were not hockey plays.

Very similar explanations for what occurred and similar patterns in suspensions for both players outlined in the videos.

Except, for, you know, Torres leaving his feet, and the videos stating that Silfverberg was no longer eligible to be hit while Sundqvist was. I guess those could be considered minor differences and similar patterns to some?

More the part where they both have significant suspension histories outlined near the end of each video.

Bettman kept the 20 game suspension in his 31-page findings report (no surprise), but Wilson had his independent arbitration hearing yesterday. From the reduction of Auston Watson's (much more horrific situation) suspension, I anticipate Wilson getting at least 3 games knocked off of his suspension. But, I've been wrong before, so we'll see.

Suspension

This was honestly one of the hardest hits and his past doesn't help either. I find that it was good that he got suspended.

He did get 6 game knocked off his suspension, lucky duck.
