Can some of you wise Yoda's give me some info to think over? Giving some serious consideration to attending one of these shows this year. My understanding is that they are in May and November this year? If so is one show better than the other? May seems nice but November may be cold? I don't own a jacket!!! :)
Would assume that there is an international airport in Toronto to fly into and some nice places to stay, especially if my wife accompanies me? Never been to the great North so it would be fun to do something a bit different and hopefully meet few of you!
Any comments are very welcome...hmm,,,almost any comments!
Regards, Jerry

I've only managed to get to one (this past November). It was rather chilly, but it was nice and toasty inside. It was so much fun. You'll want to bring lots of money and lots of stuff to trade and/or sell.

Things about the Expo, November is usually the best time to come just because the fact that Upper Deck only comes in the Fall Expo.

In the past the Spring Expo is better for the sellers and the fall is better for the buyers, but usually thats only when hockey is on, because if a player is hot, they would sell better in the Spring instead of Fall expo..

The Airport is right beside the International Centre, and there are plenty of hotels in the area that are not expensive.

And its great for meeting fellow board members, at the last expo, there was alot of us there! everywhere you turned you saw a board member, but I saw Quincy the most, it seemed he was always around lol.

so its your decision when to come, if your a fan of the Show redemptions from the companies, Fall is usually better because you have UD and ITG, but Spring can always be just as good if ITG steps it up..

Don't kid yourself.
ITG does the same thing every single expo.
Hasn't changed sinceI'vebeen going and from all reports, it'sbeen the same before that aswell.

Aside from that, you're spot on :)
UD is only there in the fall.
And that usually draws more people in I guess.
You end up with more new product in the show cases because people have wanted to get the redemptions.

I'm curious to see what the next show is like, I wonder if it will be worth flying in for if there is no hockey.

I'd suggest Fall as well, for a few reasons.
- with a new season, the previous season's stuff tends to fall in price a little, so you stand a slightly better chance of completing a project at a good price.
- the fall expo seems to carry with it more optimism to me: people are there to SPEND
- UD's presence helps. Anytime you can offset the "bum in the snowbank" phenomenon with the show redemptions, you're doing all right.

They are both a BLAST. I highly recommend you come to at least one. The Fall normally is the stronger show, but with the lookout, who knows? I know for a fact, I always have a good time at both, and always manage to spend too much!

Thanks for the info guys,,,sounds like November would be the best...probably need at least a sweater......got a few of those lying around for those 50 degree nights we have.....guess once I get serious about this and know my work schedule better this summer I think I may have to fly up.....:)
Thanks! Jerry

HOnestly some of the november days aren't too bad. Either way, you need to get one of those ice cream things they sell there. Very addicting.

Pbbbbth... come to both. Judge for yourself!

I see they already have Frank Mahovolich signed up as the Friday autograph guest (and this isn't the Canada Post - he's a regular guest this time out)...

The show is near the airport, and it is entirely possible to get around the weekend without a rental car, though cabbing may just be as expensive! lol

See you there!

Cory

If you want to enjoy Toronto outside of the show then I would come this May instead of waiting until November... or sell some cards and buy a jacket. :)

The weather will be great in May. It was a bit chilly in November during the show. But it's not like there's snow or anything. Really isn't that bad.

The Airport and the International Centre are right across the street from each other. Many hotels and some OK bars and restaurants are in the area. But if you really want to get a taste of Toronto then you'll have to travel farther from the airport area. That's practically boonie land up there.

I was there last May and froze my arse off. This past November, however, was pleasant.

I'm still 50-50 as to whether I'll be attending this next show. If you're a regular dealer you have to look beyond the "set up and sell" thinking to guage the success. In addition to that you'll make so many contacts and get a real pulse on what is going on in the hobby. It's definately worth the trip.

I actually did extremely well last spring! :)

Is anyone from here going in the Spring for selling (Quincy?, DrBailey?, LSOH?). I'd like to think I am going but I think it will depend on what dealers are setting up. Because I might as well take the money that I would spend on a hotel room, plane ticket and cards ;), to go nuts on eBay picking off some stuff. Plus, that PSP is looking mighty interesting as I can get awfully bored here at school :p.

It snowed big time the November before last.

If you are taking the wife May is better than November. You can do outdoor activities. In November all she can do is hit the malls of which they have a lot.

Went a couple years ago in November, and there was plenty of snow.
I stayed till the end of the show on Sunday. I had a 7:30 flight that didn't take off till almost 9:30. First time I've been on a plane where they had to de-ice it before takeoff.

Two days at the show was a blast!! Had cards graded, found a card I needed to make a big trade, and found a bunch of cards to finish the 01-02 Premier Auto set I was working on. Had set up a few trades with guys I had known off Beckett Buy/Sell and Collector pages (quincy for one) and was just amazed at everything there. No better place for a hockey collector. Need to get back again.
