I recently made the trip back home from Albquerque to Detroit with my lovely fiance and when we got back, we went to a card show. We kind of scheduled the trip back around getting there in time for the card show, and we really were not disappointed.
First, we're doing a set of BAP Action, so we bought our second box of it. Nothing spectacular, we got two (crappy) jerseys from it. Last box, we got Colaicovo, Richter and a Sapphire Nash, so this box wasn't quite as good as you see below. BTW, you can't get cards 600+ in boxes?
Next, Janelle wanted to bust a box of Parkhurst Retro, and given that it was only $33 a box, I let her buy one
Pretty happy with the results, even though the RC was a stinker.
Thornton GUed:
Mini RC of some Nash guy...is he any good?
The regular RC was Kris Vernarsky. Can't stand the guy. Back in the late 90's, I was a part time scout in the OHL. I wrote a scouting report on Vernarsky that got published and his family saw it. He has a huge family and they would ALL go to the Whaler games. Well, in the report, I criticized his skating. He was really really really bad, he skated with his legs way too far apart. Made him hard to knock down, but he was slow as molasses and he had the turning radius of a Greyhound bus. His older brother read the report and got in my face at a game later in the season. How he recognized me is beyond me. He yelled and yelled and I just kept my mouth shut. When he was finished, I exploded on him. Suffice it to say, he didn't have anything to add when I was finished and never again looked me in the eye when we ran into each other.
But hey, his skating improved and he ended up being drafted. So at least some good came of it. And he's a bust, so I was right as well.
Anyway...
We left the show and went out to the car and Janelle said she wasn't satisfied. She wanted to open more boxes. They had 2001 UD Golf for $7 a box or 3/$20, so I told Janelle that would be a cheap bust. I told her it also had Tiger Woods' RC in it, and before I met her, she wanted to marry Tiger Woods. It was an easy sell.
We sat at a restaurant and opened, and I figured that with 12 boxes to a case and one GUed per 12 boxes, we had a very slim chance of getting a GUed card. But I was hopeful anyway. My luck has been very crappy lately, so I knew if we were going to get one, Janelle would get it.
Sure enough, she did!
Never heard of Stricker, but it's a nice swatch, eh? Not bad considering we paid $20 for the three boxes and had a 1 in 6 chance of pulling one.
But wait...I wasn't finished with my box...
What's this?
Another one?
Who is this guy?
All in all, it was a pretty good day for card collecting, I would say. Check out Part 2 for some other good stuff I found in my card collection back home!
