Verified Trader ,
Greetings, all. Seems like it hasn't been that long since I did this, because I guess, well...it hasn't been. December was fairly fruitful for the ol' Larry Murphy PC, and I managed to sneak a few late additions into my "favorite pickups of 2017" thread. Since we turned the page to 2018, for much of January, things were looking slower to the point where I thought I might finally get a break. Not so. Between the past 2 months, you wouldn't think I was tightening my belt much if at all. So before things get any further out of hand, let me get you up to speed on those pickups. Stick around until the end - it'll be worth it.
First up, a couple plates from Superlative and Lumber Kings respectively:
2017 In The Game Superlative Careers Printing Plates Yellow #C12 Larry Murphy 1/1 by primetimepawich, on Flickr
2017 Lumber Kings Game-Used Lumber Printing Plates Cyan #GUL22 Larry Murphy 1/1 by primetimepawich, on Flickr
I'm pretty fair-weather when it comes to chasing these. One Ebay seller had these 2 so I figured I would grab them to make the US-Canada shipping a bit more worthwhile.
A few autos from UD's much-maligned Black:
16/17 Black Pro Penmanship #PENLM Larry Murphy by primetimepawich, on Flickr
16/17 Black Color Coded Signatures #COLM Larry Murphy 35/49 by primetimepawich, on Flickr
16/17 Black Color Coded Signatures Jumbo Jersey #COLM Larry Murphy 1/15 by primetimepawich, on Flickr
I like the colors of the ink on the last 2.
17/18 Overtime Gold Foil Autograph #43 Larry Murphy by primetimepawich, on Flickr
These are not very plentiful or easy to come by. After a few failed attempts, I landed this one for a couple bucks. Yes please.
17/18 Canadian Tire Team Canada Gold Foil Signatures #77 Larry Murphy by primetimepawich, on Flickr
See above. A few bucks more, but still within my wheelhouse.
16/17 Ultimate Hockey Ultimate Signature Memorabilia Prime Copper Spectrum #SMLM1 Larry Murphy 2/5 by primetimepawich, on Flickr
Had this on my Watch list for the last while until the BIN dropped into my wheelhouse. Not nearly as nice as my previous copy (sold to HI's bwmechtech) but good enough.
I can always count on Ebay's north-of-7 to open the Leaf products I have a vested interest in. Had my eye on these and waited until the prices dropped, bought together and saved on shipping:
2017 In The Game Superlative Careers Blue #C12 Larry Murphy 2/12 by primetimepawich, on Flickr
2017 In The Game Superlative Careers Green #C12 Larry Murphy 5/7 by primetimepawich, on Flickr
Last month I showed the start of the Lumber Kings GU Stick Murphy rainbow I was trying to piece together. Also from north-of-7 came these quality pieces:
2017 Lumber Kings Game-Used Lumber Red #GUL22 Larry Murphy 1/3 by primetimepawich, on Flickr
2017 Lumber Kings Game-Used Lumber #GUL22 Larry Murphy 1/6 by primetimepawich, on Flickr
2017 Lumber Kings Game-Used Lumber Emerald #GUL22 Larry Murphy 1/1 by primetimepawich, on Flickr
Last November I had acquired the true 1/1 GU Stick which had been featured on Leaf's Twitter preview and first got me excited about this product. But even before the 1/1, they had shown a great /2 copy that I'd vowed to make my own too if it ever surfaced. Well that day was a few weeks ago when I overpaid for it on COMC:
2017 Lumber Kings Game-Used Lumber Purple #GUL22 Larry Murphy 2/2 by primetimepawich, on Flickr
I am now one /4 card away from completing the entire rainbow.
Speaking of rainbows, I am also chasing and overpaid for this one:
2017 In The Game Used Jerseys Patch Gold #GUP26 Larry Murphy 1/1 by primetimepawich, on Flickr
2017 Leaf In The Game Superlative Stick Club Blue #SC10 Larry Murphy 1/12 by primetimepawich, on Flickr
I tend to find most copies of these cards underwhelming, but this one from Leaf's original Twitter preview of Superlative at least had a few multicolor patches, so I vowed to add it if it went live. Got it for a good price this past Sunday, and the seller let me know they also had this:
2017 In The Game Superlative Signatures Green #SSLM1 Larry Murphy 5/7 by primetimepawich, on Flickr
LA jersey # 5/7? Well, when in Rome...
2017 In The Game Superlative Signatures #SSLM1 Larry Murphy 30/30 by primetimepawich, on Flickr
Got this parallel of the same auto in one of my bulk deals with north-of-7.
When Doc Price launched his President's Choice site, this card pretty much had my name on it since Day 1. But since it pretty much had "only" my name on it, I felt there was no sense jumping the gun and competing against myself. This past Holiday season, Price ran a site-wide sale that finally brought the price of this card as close to my wheelhouse as I figured it was going to get. The scan on the site didn't really do it justice, so I scanned it myself. We've seen tons of great examples of Price's work on this site, so it's hardly a secret, but let me just say if anyone is still reluctant to get on board with them...don't be. They look great in-hand and this is now a prized part of my PC:
Pittsburgh Dynasty StickRack Larry Murphy 1/1 by primetimepawich, on Flickr
And for my grand finale:
In my last S+T, I had ended off with the one card that was my top want for 2018, pretty much from the moment I had seen it in Leaf's Twitter preview in 2017. But as new releases become old and give way to the newest flavors, you never know when or if cards will see the light of day, especially 1/1s. Your good vibes worked before, so I asked for them again, and again the hockey card gods listened. We're not even out of January and the card that was #1 with a bullet on my wishlist is on its way to me:
2017 Leaf In The Game Superlative Shield Signatures #SSSLM Larry Murphy 1/1 by primetimepawich, on Flickr
Thanks for the looks, and comments always welcome. With the big fish out of the pond now, surely I can take a break, right? TBD...
