I pulled a Kaprizov Young Gun from a tin of UD 2 back in September. It was frayed very badly on the edges, so I submitted a claim for UD to replace it. They accepted and I sent it. After a few months, I had still not received my card back. I contacted UD. THey said to give it a bit as they show it shipped on their end. I waited another month so now we are in early January. THey said to wait again. At this point, I was is in the process of moving, so I contacted them again to make sure it wasn't going to go to my old address. So, they sent the replacement via fed ex to my new address. I opened the package, and it was a Lafreniere Young Guns. So, I look at recent sales of both of these guys because at this point, I am feeling slighted but wanted proof. Lafreniere sells for around $110 CDN and Kaprizov for $180 CDN. So, I contact UD again. Their response was sending me a recent sales list for Kaprizov from Feb-3 2022 to Dec 30 2021. 10 sales during that time frame, it seems like to cherry pick to support their claim. Here is where it gets really messed up for me. Their 10 recent sales list for Lafreniere is from Nov 18 2021 to Nov 14 2021. They then end it with, " This shows you did receive fair value in your replacement." Am I way off base here? It just seems that they cherry picked data to make it seem they were being fair. Not to mention, that for a nearly 6 month wait, I didn't even get anything extra at all. Nowhere was I asked if I would accept this as a replacement either. Thoughts?

If - big if - if they had simply said "we don't have stock, so here's the other marquee YG from UD this year", one might see something resembling a good faith effort. That's not what they did. Despite a WEALTH of good data, they picked a few data points to support a crappy replacement. You were skunked. Continue to press for better.

I agree that this is poor customer service. This is not a fair replacement and their reasoning makes no sense. I would definitely press them to add more to make up for their error.

Kinda reminds me of when they sent out my 05-06 Power play rookie redemptions (one had the Ovy rookie, book value on all of them had gone down a lot by the time I received them)

Took them about 18 months to send it out after telling me multiple times it would be sent out. Last guy I spoke to said he would send me something to make up for the long wait of something they had in house since release. Asked what I collected, told them. Said I would receive something that I would be very VERY happy with. It was a single pack of fleer.

After seeing stories about their customer service over the years, I think it all depends on how lucky you get with someone there who actually cares. Some people score big. Some get hosed big time.

I don't see the problem with the replacement value. Kaprizov has sold all over the place this season. If you look at sold prices on Auctions only you see a TON of sold prices in the $110-$130 range. And the rule for replacements is and has always been - you get what you get.

Just to play devils advocate, getting imperfect cards out of the pack has always been part of the deal, and it's the reason high graded cards exist and are so popular. I'm surprised you can even send cards back.

So I think getting the #1 OA as a substitute is a pretty decent compromise, even if one card is selling for more then another today.

I've always thought this too. Graded cards exist cause some are better than others. When there is a tiny imperfection, that's the luck of the draw. But, that's just my opinion.

UD had an entire product come out of the pack in horrible condition which is why the replaced many of them upon customer request, no questions asked.

Draft placement of the two players isn't really relevant to this as the value isn't comparable. And lets be honest here, UD prints an insane amount of Young Guns for marquee players. The grading data supports that. If they somehow ran out of Kaprizov Young Guns, they should have offered another Kaprizov from a different product with similar value to makeup for a manufacturing defect.

To be clear, this wasn't a minor defect. Every edge of the card looked like it was cut with a dull blade. None of the edges were crisp at all. I would accept minor defects and keep the card raw. This was not the case on this one.

That is disappointing. But I think you did ok in terms of at least getting something. Topps is horrible with that kind of stuff. Panini is beyond useless when it comes to customer service. I bet there is still people waiting on redemptions from 13-14

I might be in the minority here but I feel like redemption cards should be valued at the time of the card being redeemed. Meaning Lafreniere YGs were more valuable than Kaprizov YGs at the time of redemption.

If you pulled some rookie redemption last year of Kravtsov or Hoglander or Smith or Sharangovich or Vilardi and that said card is produced today, what value do you want on it? The value that the card was at when you redeemed it or the value of it now after those players rookie cards have dropped in values? Of course you are going to want the value from the time that the card was redeemed.

It wasn't a redemption. I pulled a Kaprizov that was damaged. Sent it in for replacement. It took them nearly 6 months to complete it with a card that is just over half the value(Lafreniere YG).

I understand that. I’m just pointing out that you only visited the champagne room apposed to being bent over by Panini or Topps.

In early January 2022 Kaprizov YGs were going for $100-$110, that's where Alexis is now. You're basically complaining because Kaprizov is near his peak high and Alexis is at his lowest low. If they flip flop anytime in the next year will you still complain? Doubt it.
