UD Replacement Question

Good afternoon everyone,

I was hoping to get some members opinions here on a replacement I received from Upper Deck. I have never asked for a replacement before, and I don't often have to redeem cards.

Almost 2 years ago I got a redemption for a JOHNNY GAUDREAU
2014-15 NHL ICE UD BLACK LUSTROUS ROOKIES AUTO CD# LR-JG #'D TO 349

Well, almost 1.5 years go by and its seeming like this card will never be manufactured, or signed as many products have come and gone with Johnny auto's but this one hasn't been made or signed, so I requested a replacement.

UD was fairly quick to respond and asked me for a list of players/teams etc. I gave them the following:

Johnny Gaudreau
Sam Bennett
Connor McDavid
Wayne Gretzky
Bobby Orr

I was hoping for a Gaudreau card in replacement. Well it took almost 3 months to receive a replacement, and what I got was very disheartening.

I received a 14-15 Rinks of Honor auto booklet-Gaudreau. I don't HATE this card by any means, but to get a replacement for a numbered rookie card, to a now non numbers, non rookie card seems like a very un-fair replacement.

I could be out to lunch here. I know they state to go by BV, but I do find it very hard to believe these 2 would be any where close on BV.

Please let me know your thoughts and recommendation on where to go on this.

Just checked a few completed eBay sales,3 rinks of honor sold for 40+, the one lustrous auto with a completed sale didn't get 20 bucks, seems like a pretty fair trade off to me.

They both book for $80; UD must check B/V before sending out replacements. Sale prices don't matter to them. Of course you could ask how they arrive at a B/V for a card which might not have been produced...

Also, you asked for the likes of Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Orr or Connor McDavid for a replacement to Gaudreau? I bet UD crossed every one of those names off their list for you.

As a Gaudreau collector, the replacement was more than fair. I would rather have the rink of honor to be honest. The lustrous rookie auto isn't a true rookie and is fairly high numbered at /349 anyways.

this is pretty much how i see it as well, i love my RoH gaudreau card and would rather that than the ud black, but either way that sucks that it is not made cause those black cards are sexy as all get out

I'd only be pissed that I got a booklet, but that's a fair swap out AND you got yourself a Gaudreau auto too.

I hate to echo the chorus here but I'd be pretty stoked.

Reasons:
The UD Black and ROH are both from rookie year with neither being a true rookie so even on that point

The ROH and Black both seem to book around the same with the ROH selling better

The ROH is a MUCH more unique card, which I think makes it more desirable for a PC.

I understand you wanted more but, if it were me, I'd change that symbol to a thumbs up!

I realized now, that I was wrong in my assessment of the card. I don't know how I mis-read it, but I thought this Gaudreau card was from his SECOND season (15-16) not his rookie year. This does change a lot.

Also, the reason I put Gretzky, Orr, McDavid down was for the main purpose of only wanted to get a Flames card, but not some no name scrub that never made the team.
