What a shame. Keep your cards away from fluorescents and sunlight. The results aren't pretty.

Not my card, just wept a little when I saw the horribly faded auto. A result of too much time under the lights or sun.

I had a UDA Gretzky Heroes header card that has sat int he dark since I got the card and it's faded away. Money flushed down the tubes :(

I was in a store yesterday, and there was this Gretzky 97/98 Premium Cut double diamond in the display case closest to the window. Only problem was it was pink instead of red.

Im pretty sure fading on some cards isn't necessarily due to exposure to sunlight. The card itself would probably show that also, doesn't appear to be the case on that card. Just lousy ink.

I know a few people who sell at outdoor flea markets during the summer. Sunlight will most definitely cause the ink to fade like that, especially if the UV rays are magnified by having the card in a showcase under the sun.

I picked up a Hull auto from a dealer that has fading like that. He had it a display case most of the time...same set, not SP. It's what happens to those older cards after years of light.
I have a few more SOTT from the same set and they are fine, but they've been in a box, too.

One small local hobby store here has that issue. Well, they have other issues, but they have a few decent priced autos except every single auto is faded to the point where the deals cease to be good.

Yup, the local shop had a showcase with fluorescents in it. It actually faded several autos to the point of near disappearance.

I have an Ulf Samuelsson BAP auto that faded badly from sitting on my dresser for years... I wish I had known that would happen.

That is unfortunate. Whats more unfortunate is that the auto is not done in the same ink as the #ering. The 4/25 is still nice and vibrant. Oh well, the price on the remaining ones just went up;)

funny you bring this up.i was recently at a show and of the 20 or so dealers there was one who had his cards in his display case with cardboard cut swatches over the auto portion of all his auto'd cards to prevent fading from his flourescent lights.it was a step in the right direction and i commended him on it.
