I am not familiar with the upcoming Metal set at all. It seems most in the hobby are very excited about it. Can I ask why? Has this been a hockey release before? Does Upper Deck make it?

Yes, Metal was a release back in the mid to late 90s and again in 2012-13 to 2016-17.
