Having a nice quiet moment at home this morning trying to create enough energy to go outside and enjoy a day of not doing too much when the pohone rings. It is FEDEX asking if I was expecting a package from Upper Deck. Hesitantly I say Maybe, why? Guys says he has a package for me and cannot find my address on google. I give him the directions and wait patiently to see what this is all about.

20 minutes later the dogs start barking, a true indication that my package has arrived. I open the door and this young man gets me to sign for the package and then asks if he could come in and watch me open it! (true story, you just cant make this s hit up!!)

Inside is a small envelop with a card and a small box that I thought was a pack of the Cup (yea I know, a dreamer still). I read the card and it is from our good friend Chris Carlin with a note stating that he had heard that I had a set back with my health lately and thought opening a box of cards would take my mind from it. (He was dead on the mark with that one!)

I open the box and there are three cards inside. Apparently this was a give away for the recent convention for Diamond Dealers. I am already impressed that the boys south of the border cared enough about a customer to send the package in the first place. Then I see this

Must admit I have no idea who this guy is or what his career was like, but non the less, it is my first boxing card.

Next on the list is this

Now I am pumped. I call my wife over to show her what is happening here. She is happy for me of course as the very kind jesture has made an improvement in my day and she can see it. (best wife in the world by the way)

Final card. I am thinking base card but one should never look a gift horse in the mouth...so I flip the card around and see this

I am floored! I am so thankful and I am pumped!

Thank you Chris and team, it will not be forgotten. The card with the note has been put away for keepsake, so that my granddaughter can read it one day. But I cannot leave this note without singling out my secret friend who owns a piece of my heart. Miss Dianne Hatley, I know you were behind this and you have truly touched my heart. We WILL meet in Toronto at the Spring Expo, regardless of what the doctors say!!

Congratulations to you and to Chris Carlin and Upper Deck for being first class.

and

Awesomeness, Inc!

Kudos to Upper Deck! :hi5:

Cyril, Connor and I just talked about this other day. I mentioned Hobby Insider and he remembered how they helped him out with gestures like this when he was hot and heavy in his brain cancer battle. Little things like this do perk up the positive vibes....and I know we need those positive vibes to get through these illnesses. It made me think of you. Hoping you can get healthier every day, bud! :)

Thanks for this upbeat post!

Cyril, this is a great story, kudos to those at Upper Deck who it seems only hear our complaints. I look forward to shaking your hand at the spring Expo my friend, keep fighting the good fight bud.
Cheers.
Dan.

Stories like this remind me of what's important in this hobby and in life. That was fantastic gesture and it obviously succeeded in making a challenging experience a little brighter.

Enjoy the cards and more importantly, best wishes for 2018!

Couldn't happen to a better person. Congrats Cyril and good on UD to reach out with some kindness.

Wow , a great gesture , fitting gesture to one of the best in the hobby.I met you once at the expo and have never forgotten your kindness and your passion for the hobby. feel well and may the good days outnumber the bad ones , until the bad days are gone and only good days are ahead.

Where would Upper Deck be without Chris Carlin? What a classy gesture.

My thoughts exactly. While I will continue to hold UD to the highest standards with regard to producing better hockey cards, if Chris Carlin were not there that company would be worthless, WORTHLESS.

In fact, I am glad UD survives for the sake of Chris Carlin and his family. Good job Chris and outstanding story Cyril, get well soon sir!

Very cool gesture and nice to see it brought some additional joy to your day.

Hope all continues to go well and all the best.

Im sorry to hear of the health issues and pray for your continued road to recovery. Chris, Jason and the staff at Upper Deck continue to exemplify what a company can mean to the hobbyist that support them!

Great Story Cyril, and great on UD.
We do only hear the negative side of most things so this males more people feel better so let's try to do more positives!!
All the best in 2018. We will see you in the spring.
