Wow... what next? From what I was told, Yu-Gi-Oh & WoW were 50% of UD's business... apparently it was an "amicable" parting, but I have also read that it has to do with both the Konami and the MLB lawsuits.

It's actually getting to the point where I'm feeling bad for them... not UD itself, but for some of the good people there. I sure hope they're updating their resumes.

The lawsuits and now this--whoever has the job of securing licenses at UD can't be happy. Their job just keeps getting tougher. I'm wondering how many licenses UD has left...

They have hockey (up for renewal in June), football and baseball players, along with some non-sports stuff (joint-license with Marvel with Rittenhouse).

This has to hurt - basketball (gone), yu-gi-oh (gone), world of warcraft (gone), baseball league license (gone). From what I heard, yu-gi-oh and world of warcraft were well over 1/2 of their revenues... take away basketball and they'll take a big hit on baseball (just like hockey people, baseball people don't like cards without logos), and that's a great big OUCH in the income department.

Someone has to pull a rabbit from the hat down in Carlsbad...

Problem is that the rabbit died a year ago and nobody bothered to clean the hat...

This has been in the works for a while. Blizzard Entertainment was looking for a new venue for their TCG game including some revolutionary on-line formats. In fact, all UD was even doing for them for the past releases was just the printing. All the development and art was done in-house by Blizzard. It was purely a cost cutting move by Blizzard more than anything else. This isn't nearly as big as the Konami or MLB issues.

Be that as it may, Chris, is UD really in a position where they can wantonly lose revenue streams? I don't think so.
