On the weekends I find myself digging through my closets....Its actually kind of fun to look at some of my cards that I havent touched in YEARS!

A random guy walked in to our LCS, wanting to sell his Gretzky poster, owner made a deal, knowing I'm a Rangers collector, so I made a deal to acquire it but never got around to framing it.

Its now in an 11x17" oversized hard cover and a cheap frame. Sorry for the bad picture reflection.

I might upgrade the frame down the road and get someone to authentic the signature as it came with no COA.

Thoughts on authentication?

I would just send it to Beckett or PSA? Just as good as UD, probably cost less as well. I’m not sure UD will allow you to send things in for certification?

Either way, nice piece, signature looks pretty legit to me!
 
That's a great piece. I've had stuff done with PSA in the past but can't remember how much it cost.

According to the PSA web site a Gretzky auto cost $50.00 to have authenticated. Also given the size of it they do not(at this time anyway) have a sealed holder to place it in.Of course after that $50.00 you have fees to send and have it returned.Likely that would be more than the cost of PSA authenticating it. It is a very nice looking item. It would look realy nice with a very nice frame around it.
 
PSA has a quick opinion service, it is around 15 bucks, where they give an opinion on an auction listing. If you plan on keeping it but want to know if legit before framing, I would use that service.

If it is legit, make sure to use conservation framing. Acid free tape, hinges, rag mat and UV glass. Frame can be cheap but invest in making sure the piece is secure and won’t fade.

Agreed.

Also use spacers especially with ANY autograph so the glass doesn't come in contact with the ink and possibly adhere.
 
All great recommendations on how to preserve this. I’ve read many threads regarding fading and autographs sticking to the glass. I was going to get framing at the Toronto Sports Expo this May before it got canceled, of course.

Any good framing vendors you recall that set up at this expo, that follow the recommendations above?
 
I frame my stuff myself now, but have had good luck Michaels. They know what they are doing. FWIW a quality mat keeps the auto off the glass, I haven’t found a need to use spacers.

Also, I’m not a huge fan of how sports memorabilia is traditionally matted and framed. The pieces you get from a lot of places use cheap glass and glue mounts and I don’t like that standard black etched mat they all use.

I am a fan of gallery style framing; thin metal black frame, acid free white mat, hinge mounts and UV glass. The frame and mat are not the show, the piece is, this style puts the focus on the art.
 
Joe Daley's in Winnipeg. Yup that Joe Daley from the Jets 35 or so years ago. His son does a great custom framing job out of their sportscard store.

Feel free to use the picture for your local framer to get ideas...id be using red white and blue for colors on yours
