Wayne Gretzky's first Indianapolis Racers auto?

I've been working on a project to get a certified autographed card of each Hall of Famer for each professional North American team they played for. I've tried to keep track of which ones were and weren't produced. I came across an interesting Wayne Gretzky autograph card in this year's Goodwin Champions. I did a little research, and I think I was able to match the card to its original photo. If I'm right, this should be Wayne's first certified autograph (to my knowledge) wearing an Indianapolis Racer's jersey. I'm not sure why they changed the color scheme of the jersey.

That's pretty cool. Too bad they couldn't use the logos. I wonder who has ownership of those old logos...the NHL?

They sold those hyper expensive gretzky boxed sets 15 or so years ago. I
Thought there was a racers themed auto in there.

You are correct! There's one in the "Gretzky Master Collection" set. On eBay right now actually.

Nice card nonetheless! You should post your 5 Gretzky's together once you have them!

Just my opinion, and that's all it is - please don't take it as a knock against the cards because I think they are awesome....

I personally wouldn't consider the Sport Royalty card a Racers card, simply because the company that produced it did everything they possibly could to make it NOT a Racers card... Usually airbrushing out the logo is all they do, but in this case, they even changed the color of the jersey so as to remove it one further place from the Racers. That's just my thoughts though, and I love that you were able to source the original pic, and I love the cards. Just my personal take on the legacy of the first one.
