I recently picked up a couple of items that had been on my want list for nearly 20 years and was kind of surprised by the fact that it took me so long to pick them up.

The first was a Hi-5 promo card set from 1992-93. This set was apparently handed out at the 1992 National and was later distributed for some bizarre reason in the Edge Ice product in 1995-96. The book price on it is $120 (without the Ed Belfour autograph, of course!) and cost me a little over $10 shipped. I can't complain about that one!

The next was a 1991-92 Pro Set French Series 2 set. Now, the first series is incredibly plentiful, but try finding boxes or cases of the second. Laugh all you want, but they're tremendously scarce for that era and outside of occasional singles, you don't see them pop up very often. I had to buy a hand collated set that included the first series (which I never finished in the first place) and it cost me a grand total of $17 after shipping.

All in all, I'm glad that these cards finally have a home in my collection. They may not be the hottest thing on the market, but I can't wait for them to arrive.

Has anyone else had similar experiences with stuff that should have been easy to get?

Heck yes. It wasn't until recently - the last couple years - that I was finally able to cross off some 8-12 year old wants from my list.

Early 2000's OPC Gold Parallels /100 - There's more than a few guys putting together the entire run of these that have been 10 cards shy from a set since the mid 2000's

I still get asked for 98/99 Black Diamond Quad Diamonds from guys who have been asking me for them 10 yeaqrs ago.

Heck, even the OPC parallels /100 from the latter half of the 2000's can be a bugger to try and track down. Took me 2 years to find the Rookie/Sophomore Showdown Rainbow Gorges/Carle for my PC. In that same time period I found 4 Gorges 07-08 UD HG /10.

I am still hunting for a handful of Topps Heritage shiny parallel's /558 from 01-02 and /667 from 02-03.

Would be really nice to put those sets to bed already...

What's old is new again...

It's crazy thinking about which cards people want that each of us might unknowingly see in discount boxes everywhere. I'd suggest a sticky thread for this type of thing, but it would be 10 pages before you knew it and it would be exhausting to go through.

I'm still trying to find an OPC Gold /50 from 2003-04. Haven't seen one for Osgood turn up on the 'Bay yet. Add in an OPC Premier Red parallel /100 from 2002-03 that I still need and I'm still curious why more of these don't show up??

Many of them ended up in shoeboxes of part-time hobbyists and kids who bought some packs, and aren't going to shows/dealing on internet.

Shame that happens, but what can ya do, right? Considering there were 100 made of the OPC Premier Red, surely SOME must be out there that aren't in shoeboxes.. :|

I am down around 50 cards on my Turco wantlist and the cards listed below are all numbered rather high yet no luck finding them in years. The Victory cards are some of the toughest, same with the OPC/Topps parallels. All of the cards below I would be willing to pay WAY, WAY, WAY, WAY... Way over book.

2002-03 OPC Premier Red 85 (/100)
2002-03 UD Victory Silver 66
2002-03 UD Victory Gold 66 (/100)
2003-04 Topps Red 216 (/100)
2003-04 Topps OPC Gold 216 (/50)
2003-04 UD MVP Blow Up Card 139 (/299)
2005-06 UD Victory Silver 62 (/250)
2008-09 UD Collectors Choice Gold Choice Reserve 260

...You're joking right?

I just threw that set into recycling a few months back when I was purging my office bookshelves, thinking "Nobody would want a french Pro Set base set even if I offered it up for free and offered to pay shipping because the shipping would be way too much to be reasonable on this thing." Considering most non HI collectors in Vancouver are so cheap that I can't even GIVE THINGS AWAY at the local show, I didn't even bother to take it there.

Had I known...it would've been yours. Hell, I probably would've halved shipping costs with you too if I knew it was a white whale of yours.

:badmood:

This card has been haunting me since the damn product came out!

04/05 Heroes & Prospects
Base- # 15- Groulx

Granted, there is one on eBay at this moment. Out of spite, i refuse to buy it for $4 shipped. I spent years going to tables, and shops with that piece of crap card on my wantlist. So damn frustrating.
