What a waste...

Looks like augmenting cards to "increase value" isn't exclusive to sports and patch fakers. I was considering making an offer on this until I took a closer look at the card itself.

Notice anything? The "2008" was added by someone other than Robert Downey. The ink is different and if you have ever seen the cards with "2008" in his signature, it's actually a part of his signature.

Here's the card that Downey signed "2008"...

and the card with it added...

I'm calling BS on this card.

You can see in the top one you can see that he added "2008" without lifting the pen.

The bottom isn't way off, but certainly off enough to make one wonder.

I see similarities in the signing. The bottom one is definitely less clean - both the name and year. I think it was just a messier signature. But when in doubt, steer clear.

I agree with Frank...forget the "2008" addition and look at the other parts of the Downey auto itself. The "Y" at the end how it tails off. We know (or at least assume) that the signatures are legitimately his, but there are distinct differences between teh two autos themselves, much less the inscription.

I'd say he was getting tired of signing more so than anything else.

Another example would be the Downey IronMan signature that you have in your collection which nothing at all like either of these two examples above.

I discussed this with some folks on another site and for the most part people thought it was added after the fact. Looking at it now, we (or in this case, I) may have been wrong. Either way, the card is still tough to find with the 2008 inscription and others have said that folks have been adding it to non-"2008" autos for the premium, but the ink/blue hue is often different.
