I am intrigued with the idea of hording. I know some hate it some love it. This is not about that, it's about what do you think makes a hord "good" or impressive?

Here are points I think factor in on it curious what experiences people have and what people think would make it impressive

player stardom - gotta be your favourite player and/or a "listed" star
product cost - gotta be higher end?
product age - gotta get in early to get cards before they go into collections?
card attributes - gotta be serial numbered: too low is too easy, RC, AU, GU...
percent complete - gotta be 75% of print run?

I have a few hoards going. The only real criterion is: do I like the cards I’m stashing?

For me anything less than 5 you go for them all, which I've never finished. And more than 5 you go for half (or more). I have 29 of the 50 Patric Hornqvist 2008-09 ultimate debut patches and I only started it because early on I picked up some really nice swatches. Than I said I would try for half and lastly I picked them up if I see them.

I'm not a hornqvist fan or nashville fan or just sort of happened

I have completed some UD Premier TAGS #/2 ( Horvat, Stamkos) / Commemorative Patches #/2 (Duchene). BUT still searching for an Orr Trilogy #/3.
ALSO have some Eichel #/6, Hubie #/4 AND #/3 that were of interest before their TRADE.
I have 6 of 10 Hanzal UD Ultimate Patch AU AU #/10.
ALL are no longer on my search since I spend LITTLE time and do NOT subscribe to group breaks, Twitter, Instagram, ....... and enjoying LIFE!

When I started collecting Scottie Upshall I focused 99% on rookies. Not even rookie parallels. And I set my goal at 10% of the total print run for any rookie that was numbered. And I am there on most of the numbered rookie cards. It is really hard with the ones not numbered like young guns. So only 75 or so of those. But with some of the inserts that I liked the looks of I did try to do more than the 10%. But the one card that has be avoiding me is the 2003 Parkhurst Rookie. Road to the NHL subset.I thought I would try and do all 9 of the Emblem cards since that was the print run.I have 7 of the 9 and I will likely never see the those last two.But I will be a buyer if they do pop up.

When you stop being excited by seeing another copy of the card pop up, that's the time to stop. My Meyer project started in 07 and I'm still having fun, 123 of the base rookies out of 249. I'm pretty sure no one else cares about this card so I'm just going to keep plugging away

The only thing I hoard is a couple sets I'm working on numbered /10. I'm only hoarding them to use for trade to complete the sets.

Other than that particular scenario I'm not really a fan as I don't see a reason for it.

I agree with you on this. I have multiples of some high-end Odjick and M-A Pouliot cards in my collection. But, at some point, I decided to be more picky on what I add, I'm not taking on extras as much as before. The collection is getting larger and larger, and I know I'll have to focus on downsizing.

I've always enjoyed your progress when you've brought it up on these forums over the years. Never stop having fun! 123/249 is quite epic.

I remember you and me talking all the time about this. I was going after Casey Borer cup rookies at the same time lol. I ultimately gave up

In this entire hobby, your supercollection of this utter pylon is one of my favourite things.

I have several ongoing hoards, but most are from cards released from prior to 2010. Most of them are cards around /25 to /100 and players way off most everyone's hobby radar. I think I only ran in to a somewhat competitive battle once, and that was a baseball card. They usually start by somehow ending up with two copies (once it was even from the same pack). They usually fizzle out at the 15-20% of the print run.

The hobby has changed so much for recent releases that the idea of starting a new one is not enticing to me. Between the rapid demise of ebay, high shipping rates, and a lot of product being broken outside of searchable platforms it doesn't seem realistic. Getting older and not willing to adapt to the modern online hobby certainly plays a part as well!

I used to think getting the jersey # worth of ygs was a nifty feat. Did that for a couple guys over the years but none will come close to the latest one I'm hoarding. I said I'd stop at 100, then 200, and now I'm closing in on 500 copies. Hard not to when epack/comc has killed the value on common player ygs and you can get them for nearly free :)

In my opinion you have to get in day 1 as set collectors/team collectors will also look to add a copy, you have to go hard and be prepared to bid high on every copy you see.
