For me and my PC, I am only concerned with the Regular Topps Chrome RC's. The Refractors just make them out of range price wise and as a hockey guy first and foremost, the colors are parallels to me. So the regular card is what I target.

I like your valued vs desired thought. For me, I want the Top 10 players who will firstly have a shot at the Hall of Fame and secondly, be remembered for their on and off the court performance and integrity.
I am not a fan of Durant. So likely will not pursue his card. Same with Iverson. But I loved Ray Allen. Curry and Kobe I will pursue but time has to be right as the prices are high.
Duncan, Dirk, Pierce, Nash, Allen are all on my list for various reasons. Perhaps Derozan because he's a Raptor.
