What do you do with cards you don't want anymore?

Hi all,

I'm moving soon and not keen on bringing over a bunch of cards I have sitting at the back of my storage locker. There's maybe six 5,000 count boxes filled with sets, star base and inserts, etc...(i.e. nothing worth much).

Any suggestions or experiences on off loading cards in bulk (e.g. selling, donating, burning, recycling)?

Among other things:
Dump them on a local dealer.
Dump'em on a dude like Ameet.
Ship'em off to COMC.
Donate them to a local kids club/charity.

One of my coworkers has a son that is about 7 or 8 years old who collects cards. He gets all the cards I don't want.

I bundle all I have up in team bags with 15 or cards per pack and give them to my family doctor. He in tern gives them out to the kids that are feeling a bit under the weather at our local hospital. I usually only do about 5,000 twice a year. So with you having 30,000 or so to get rid of then maybe a couple hospitals may like them.

After my move two moves ago.... I went through everything.

A lot of the old base, common player to low end semi star stuff... with zero chance of ever being desirable: It went to the garbage.

Star base, inserts, parallels, RCs.... I boxed it up and sent it to COMC.

For anyone in the Maryland area, I may be interested in picking up some bulk commons.

My uncle was in the area recently affected by major flooding, and had 45 inches of water in his basement. Just about his entire collection is gone. 40+ years of collecting. No insurance. Even if you have insurance, losing your collection is still devastating. I'd love to get him a fresh start by finding some collectors with cards they really want to get rid of.

If anyone is interested in helping, feel free to send me a message here. My plan was to wait a few weeks while he gets his basement put back together, but this thread seemed appropriate.

This is a really nice idea! I bet the kids love them, especially if they are feeling sick.

Thanks for the responses folks including those that messaged me.

I liked the donation to kids idea, but most of the cards are pre-lock out so not sure kids today would appreciate them.

I reached out to Ameet, but didn't hear back. Guess he's tired of being dumped on. ; )

I got rid of my excess commons a few years ago, so these are a (half) step up from that. If I have time, I'll probably just see if anything is worth sending to comc and then sell the lot on kijiji. (If there aren't any takers I'll have a giveaway to any HI member willing to make the trek to North York.)
